Kenneth Merle Coffelt, 90, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Aubrey, TX. Ken was born on January 3, 1935, to Ralph Clarence Coffelt and Lorene Louise Silkwood in Ashland, KS. His father died when he was 2 and his mother remarried Roy Story who raised Ken as his own. He graduated from Waurika High School in 1952. He married Kay Carolyn McCamy April 11, 1963, in Waurika, OK. He was a veteran in the US Army and served during the Korean War. After earning his Bachelor of Science and master's degree in biology from the University of Oklahoma, he took a job as a coach and teacher at US Grant High School in OKC. Ken's next position moved him to Texas. He was a professor of biology at the University of Texas Arlington. Lastly, Ken was the director of biomedical communications & assistant to the president at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, retiring in 1992. Ken was member of Denton Bible Church and spent the last 16 years bringing the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to thousands of men in the Denton County Jail. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Blaine and wife, Michelle Coffelt of Aubrey, TX and two grandchildren, Wendell "Mac" and Sydnie Coffelt. Ken is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; parents, Ralph Coffelt (d. 1937); stepfather Roy Story, mother, Loraine; and brother, Doyle Coffelt. Visitation for Kenneth is Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 9:00AM at Denton Bible Chapel in Denton, TX with a funeral service to follow at 10:00AM with Tommy Nelson officiating. Interment is at 2:00PM at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, TX. Online condolence may be made at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome. Arrangements are under the direction of Terri Slay and Slay Memorial Funeral Center.
