Kenneth James Dryer, 67 of Midland, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday August 27, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center. He was born March 26, 1958, in Midland, son of the late James Paul and Cecilia Monica (Bartos) Dryer. Ken graduated from Midland High School in 1976. He became a licensed residential builder and in 1990, he became owner and operator of Ken Dryer Builders. On June 1, 1990, Ken married the former Janice M. Garner in Midland and together they had two sons, Jordan and Kyle.
Ken will be remembered as a funny, kindhearted and gentle soul. He always had a funny story to tell. His laugh was contagious, and when Ken was around, you were sure to be laughing at his jokes and impressions. He lived life to the fullest always on the go and visiting friends and family. He wouldn't ever miss a gathering with family. He loved northern Michigan, especially Wolverine, and spending time with family and friends at the cabin. He was known to show the littles how to drive vehicles in the field, drive a motorbike... etc. Ken was an avid bowler, having spent many years as part of a men's league at Valley Lanes.
Ken's sons were the apple of his eye since the day they were born. He loved building things with them and teaching them his craft of carpentry. They spent many years going to the races, and racing motocross. They enjoyed watching SuperMotocross racing on TV on Saturday afternoons. His great nieces Alivia and Lauren were also so special to him as they loved him more than anything. They had a very special bond with each other.
He is survived by his sons, Jordan Dryer and Kyle Dryer; his former wife, Jan Garner; sister, Juli Dryer; brother, Tom Dryer, all of Midland. He was a special uncle to his niece, Ami King Monville (Jerome), his great niece's Alivia King and Lauren King, and step great niece and nephew, Reese Monville and Dawson Monville. He is also survived by aunts, uncles and several cousins.
A memorial reception/luncheon will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday October 4, 2025, at the American Legion Berryhill Post #165, 5111 Hedgewood Dr, Midland, MI 48640.
