Kenneth Albert Ekholm

Kenneth Albert Ekholm, 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, March 23, 2026 at his home in Jefferson.

He was born in San Luis Obispo, CA on December 1, 1944, the son of Swante and Thelma (Davison) Ekholm. A graduate of Ashtabula High School, Class of 1962, he went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Air Force. It was during his time in the service that he discovered his talent and passion for mechanics: skills that would remain a defining part of his life. He had a natural ability to understand how things worked and took great pride in putting them back together.

A true jack of all trades, Kenneth was rarely one to sit still. He was always working with his hands, fixing engines, tinkering, or finding his next project. He found fellowship and community at Lenox Christian Fellowship, where he enjoyed spending time with others who shared his faith and values.

Outside of his work, Kenneth found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and camping with his children, creating memories in the outdoors. He also shared a special bond with his daughter Nicole, with whom he traveled to several Day of the Dead celebrations, reflecting both his curiosity and appreciation for the tradition and culture.

Kenneth had a special place in his heart for animals, especially cats, who seemed to sense his gentle nature and often followed him faithfully on walks through the woods.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ekholm; children Nicole (Ray Kershaw) Ekholm, Michele (John) Buzzard, Kenneth (Holly) Ekholm Jr., Eric Ekholm; sister, Shelia (Bob) Hill; estranged sister, Carol. He was also a grandfather and great-grandfather.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with Rev. Jim Reiter of Lenox Christian Fellowship Church officiating on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 12PM. Calling hours will be held from 11AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

The family would also like to thank Reserve Care Hospice for their care and compassion during Kenneth's final moments.
