Edsell Warren Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory on Mar. 6, 2026.
Edsell Terry Warren passed away peacefully in his home on February 27th, 2026. Terry's roots in Ashtabula County run back five generations. He was born February 3, 1930, in Ashtabula, Ohio to Theodore Edward Warren and Elizabeth Adelaide Edsell Warren. Early joys were summers spent at Redbrook learning to sail. He attended Culver Military Academy several summers. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He spent many vacations on Long Island, NY visiting his Edsell grandparents. Terry attended Ashtabula High School, played on the basketball and football squads, and graduated in 1948.

At Cornell University, Terry was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and several other honorary societies. He played on the 150-pound football team, managed the lacrosse team and earned a major in Economics. Joining ROTC at Cornell, and participating in boot camp at Ft. Bragg, NC, Terry earned the rank of 2nd Lt. in the Army. He was commissioned into the 45th Infantry Division upon graduation in 1952. Shortly thereafter, on June 27, 1952, he married Dorothea Adelaide Crozier, also a 1952 graduate of Cornell. Together they spent a stint at Fort Sill, OK until he was called to action in Korea. He was discharged in February1954 as a First Lieutenant.

In 1956 Terry graduated from Cornell Law School earning his Jurisprudence Degree. The couple moved to Ashtabula where he joined his father's law practice at Warren & Young Law Offices. He specialized in probate and trust, real estate and corporate law. He was President of the Ashtabula County Bar Association as well as the Ohio State Bar Association and served as President of the Ohio Defense Lawyers Association. He was a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a member of the American Bar Association Foundation. He retired from active practice in 1995.

Always interested in the welfare of Ashtabula, his contributions to the community were many including years of service on the Board of Directors of Growth Partnership, Civic Development Corporation, Rotary Club of Ashtabula and the Ashtabula County Medical Center Advisory Board. As legal counsel, he served on more than thirty boards including the United Way, The Boy Scouts of America, Goodwill Industries, Premix International, Molded Fiberglass and Ashtabula Rubber. In addition, he was a member of the Board of Trustees of Grand River Academy for 30 years, having a dormitory named in his honor, Warren Hall. In 1990 he received the Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County's President's Award. Rotary International acknowledged him with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The couple maintained their interest and involvement in Cornell University for 20 years serving as co-class presidents of the Class of '52.

To the very end, Terry carried with him a positive attitude toward life. You could hear his laugh from across a crowded room. He embodied humility, enthusiasm and generosity. He treated all people with respect, enjoying their company, almost as much as his enjoyed the company of his dogs Shiloh and Harry. Together they were inseparable self-appointed ambassadors of Ashtabula. Other joys were spending time with his family at their cottage in McGregor Bay, Ontario, Canada. Bare-boat sailing trips with the self-named "Scurvy Crew" was another of his great joys in life. Together the crew sailed throughout the Caribbean, the Aegean and many other waters. In later years, winters spent in Tucson, Arizona were a delight. An early paper he wrote as a freshman at Cornell begins, "I hail from Ashtabula, Ohio…" We say hail, hail to you Father, Grandfather, trusted advisor, friend, citizen, humanitarian. How lucky we were to have known and loved you. We will miss you as you sail away with the wind at your back and your dogs at your side.

Terry is survived by his four children, Mardi W. Snyder of Painesville, Ohio, Karen W. Schneider (J. Michael Schneider) of Strafford, Missouri, Douglas C. Warren (Alison Hedlund) of Port Townsend, Washington and Alison W. Liroff (Scott Liroff) of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, grandchildren, Charles M. Schneider, Andrew C. Schneider (Jaime L. Schneider), Jenny S. Coluccio (Brett Coluccio), Colin N. Warren (Stephanie N. Warren), Benjamin E. Warren, Toby E. Warren (Millicent H. Warren) and Wendy A. Liroff, great-grandchildren Braden J. H. Coluccio, Walker M. Coluccio, Gabrielle C. Schneider, Hazel J. Schneider, Clark T. Warren and Zephyr A. Warren, numerous nieces, nephews in the Warren, Edsell, Cordell and Crozier families.

Twenty-two days prior to Terry's passing, he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Dorothea (Dori) C. Warren on Feb 5th, 2026. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Theodore (Toby) Edward Warren and Elizabeth Adelaide (Ada) Edsell Warren, his sister Barbara W. Cordell, and his grandson Maxwell W. Liroff (Basking Ridge, New Jersey).

Our family would like to thank all the devoted caregivers that participated in bringing comfort, companionship and support to Terry through these last times.
