Kenneth Erikson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 17, 2025.
Kenneth (Ken) Norman Erikson passed away peacefully surrounded by love early on February 14, 2025. He will be missed by many. We will miss his passion for life, dry sense of humor, and sense of adventure for anything to do with fishing and boats.

Ken was born on September 23, 1946, in Powell River, British Columbia, Canada to Norman Erikson and Alice Larson Erikson. He was the middle child of three children. He often spoke fondly of growing up on Hardwicke Island, graduating from the one room schoolhouse on the island, known as the U of H, and fishing for dogfish livers in front of the house, the smell of which would linger on him and his brother for days.

Ken learned the value of hard work from a young age. He shared a deep bond with his father and enjoyed spending time with him. Their final fishing trip together remained one of Ken's most cherished memories.

Ken met the love of his life, Doreen Blaseckie when he was a teenager and they were partners and confidants for the rest of his life being married for almost 59 years. Ken and Doreen raised three sons, Wesley, Dale and Corey and welcomed many of their sons' friends as part of their extended family. They also spent many winters travelling to and spending months in Mexico, with the first trip being in 1973. Naturally, fishing remained a central part of these adventures.

Ken had a lifelong love of fishing and boats and would talk about gear, weather and fishing spots for many hours with countless friends. In Mexico, he spent most days fishing and customizing gear and trying different fishing techniques. When he wasn't on the water, searching and finding the best coffee place in town and then the best street tacos for dinner was another highlight of his days.

Ken is survived by his wife Doreen Erikson and their children Wesley (Lara) Erikson, Dale Erikson and Corey (Mai) Erikson. He also leaves behind five grandchildren; Chad (Jess) Banfield, Kyle (Emily) Erikson, Paige Erikson, Lexa Erikson and Soren Erikson and his sister Chris (Ian) Imlach. He is preceded in death by his parents Norman and Alice Erikson and his brother Steve (Gail surviving) Erikson.

Ken lived his life fully. He said what he had to say when he had to say it and he did what he needed to do when he needed to do it. He availed himself of every opportunity that came his way. He exhausted himself in the service of his life. Doing such, when he had enough, he was able to just let go. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
