It's with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away in the early morning at his home on January 16th, 2024. Kenneth "Scott" Gillette was born in Tooele, UT on Dec 20, 1953, to his parents John and Viola Gillette.
He attended schools in Tooele from elementary on up through high school. He worked various jobs from driving trucks to being a mechanic. He found his calling working for the Department of Army where he retired as a budget analyst. During this time, he volunteered to serve his country during Desert Storm where he put his mechanic skills to work keeping the military vehicles repaired and running. His free time was filled with him excelling at any mechanical or home project, being an exemplary traditional cowboy, and participating in family events.
On January 1, 1989, he married the love of his life Janet Rae McClung. Over the next 35 years, they shared in the spoils of what a life together could offer. They loved, they laughed, but above all they were each other's best friends and soul mates. They raised 3 children Tara, Cody and Shaun and welcomed 10 grandkids along the way. His family was everything to him. Even non-family members always received the "Gillette" treatment. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone if they needed help. He enjoyed being able to practice baseball with each of his four grandson sons and loved attending their games. His sage advice was often given to those he thought needed to hear it. Which was also his way of showing he cared about those who received it.
He is survived by his wife, 3 children, 10 grandchildren and his brother. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and sister.
Though Scott's passing leaves a hole that cannot be replaced, nor would we want it to be, Scott leaves a legacy and a road map of how a man, a cowboy, a hero, a father, and grandfather should live. He would never leave someone behind or let anyone be mistreated. He was always known to stick up for the underdog. He'd never back down from what he believed in and stood fast for a code he lived to protect. Scott "Jet" Gillette will live on through the hearts of those that held him dear, and his spirit will be with those who need him. Till we see you again, we love you. Thank you for everything, thank you for this life we shared.
There will be a celebration of life on April 27, 2024 in Salem, UT. Please see the Facebook page "Remembering Scott Gillette" for updated details as we get closer to that date. Or reach out to Janet and/or his children for info if that works better. This date has been selected to allow people from out of state to have safer travel conditions to be able to attend.
