Kenneth G. Herd

Kenneth G Herd 87 passed away at Bethany Good Samaritan Home on Oct 2, 2023. He will be
remembered to his family by husband, dad, grandpa and great papa. Ken was born and raised in
Arlington, Mn to the late Emma and Gilbert Herd. He was confirmed and graduated High School from Arlington, MN. After which he enlisted in the Marine Corp where he received two honorary awards. During his time in the Marine Corps he was stationed at Camp Fuji Japan. In 1959 he was married to Janet Damrow, after the couple was married they moved to Brainerd, MN. Together they owned and operated the Brainerd Nursing Home for 25 years where Ken was the Administrator and LPN. The couple had two daughters Lisa and Michele. Ken also worked for the Minnesota State Hospital for the rest of his career. After retirement Ken spent his time going to Arizona, Snowmobiling, motorcycling, playing cards, vacationing and eating free pie on Mondays! Ken enjoyed his family, friends and his church family.
Ken was preceded in death my his Father, Mother, Sister and Niece.
Ken is survived by wife, Janet Herd; daughters, Lisa (Michael) Strange and Michele (Jeff) Wood; grandchildren, Isaac Strange, Britteny (Joshua) VonHaden, Christine Strange, Josiah Wood, and Micah Wood; great grandchildren Mekenzi Strange, Adleigh VonHaden, Gabriel VonHaden and Grace VonHaden.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 9, 2023 at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Brainerd, MN with Pastor David Franz officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Brainerd, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M. on Sunday and from 9:30-10:30 A.M. on Monday at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Brainerd, MN. Caring for Kenneth and his family is Halvorson-Taylor Funeral Home in Brainerd, MN.
