Kenneth Leroy Higgins

SFC (retired) SFC (retired) Kenneth Leroy Higgins, of Dumfries, Virginia, age 57, was healed "Hallelujah" and transitioned to eternal rest peacefully at his residence on Monday, January 18, 2010.

He is survived by his mother, Ms. Doris Wells of Columbus, Ohio and preceded in death by his father, Doc Higgins; he is also survived by one uncle, Sidney Shorter; one brother, Steven Wells (Charlissa); nieces, DelVonna Wells and Chavala Tweedy (Josh); God Daughter, Courtney Earl-Leonard; God Brothers, Willie Green (Jackie), Nelson Green; God Sister, Blanche Green-Allah (Kayyum); cousins and a host of other family members and friends.

Life Celebration Services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 12 p.m. at First AME Church of Manassas, 10313 South Grant Ave., Manassas, Virginia 20110, (703) 361-8791 with the Rev. Ronald A. Boykin officiating. Arrangements by Mountcastle Funeral Home in Woodbridge, Virginia.

I first met Brother Kenn Higggins when I relocated to the D.C. area in 1994. Not only did Kenn welcome me into the Brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha he excepted me into his personal family as well. Over the years we developed some very fun memories and I will always remember you and how you cared about others. Rest in peace my brother and my friend.

I didn’t know Kenn very well but I do know that he was a good neighbor. He worked to raise money for the American Heart Association a few years back and each spring he planted the most beautiful flowers around the tree in his front yard and they just kept blooming and blooming. Our neighborhood has lost a valued member and I will miss looking at those beautiful flowers. He is resting now and my prayers are with the family.

Words will never express what you meant to both Courtney and me. You were more than a friend to me and godfather to my daughter; you were my brother. I will try to find comfort in the wonderful memories I have of us. I know you are at peace and no longer in pain and knowing that will fill the void in our hearts. We are going to miss you dearly.
