Kenneth Barnes Hobday, 96, of Sunrise, KY, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
Born on May 4, 1929, Kenneth was the son of the late Howe and Carrie Barnes Hobday. A pillar of his community, Kenneth wore many hats throughout his long and fulfilling life. He was a lifelong tobacco farmer, faithfully milking cows for over 50 years and had a love for raising beef cattle. He also worked as a realtor and logger. Kenneth served as a magistrate for 18 years, was a proud Kentucky Colonel, and spent more than two decades driving a school bus for the Harrison County School System. He retired from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, in the division of weight and measures and animal health.
A devoted member of the Cynthiana Christian Church, Kenneth gave freely of his time, including serving as a little league coach. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and remained passionate about horses, owning and attending horse races for many years.
Kenneth shared nearly 75 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joan Harp Hobday, who preceded him in death in 2022. He was also preceded in death by his grandson Dr. David French, his siblings William Hobday and Violet Williams, and brothers-in-law Kenneth "Corky" Harp and Gene Harp.
He is survived by his loving daughter Linda (the late Kenny) Ross; grandchildren Rodney (Jenny) Ross and Michael (Britt) Ross; and great-grandchildren Madison French, Rachel French, Taylor Ross, Makenzie Ross, Jackson Ross, Micah Ross, and Molly Ross. Kenneth is also survived by his sisters-in-law Penny Harp and Ann Harp, as well as many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. The family extends a special thank you to his dedicated caregivers and friends, Amber Soard and Madison Kiskaden, for their compassion and care.
A funeral service honoring Kenneth's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Meditation Building at Battle Grove Cemetery in Cynthiana.
Woodhead Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hobday family.
