Marjorie Sack Hobday, age 95, passed away peacefully at her home on October 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, the daughter of the late Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise (Hollins) Sack. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Richard G. Hobday, and her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Sack. Marjorie was educated in Schenectady and Albany, attending St. Agnes School, Burnt Hills High School, and later Skidmore College. She possessed a lifelong love of music and shared that passion with her husband, Richard. Together, they were active members of several musical groups, including the Schenectady Choral Society, Crotchets and Quavers, and the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society. They also lent their voices to numerous church choirs, from St. Mary's in Lake Luzerne-where they sang during the summers-to the Calvary Church choir, which became their musical home. A child of the Great Depression, Marjorie learned to be resourceful and creative, often crafting, sewing, or making whatever her family needed. She found great joy in gardening and took pride in nurturing beauty both indoors and out. The Hobdays spent their summers at their beloved camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir-a place filled with memories of wildlife, canoeing, hiking, and simple joys. It was there, at a square dance, that Marjorie first met Richard, beginning a love story that would last a lifetime. Together, they also shared a passion for the arts-writing, painting, and hosting their annual Holiday Art Show Open House for over forty years, where they joyfully displayed and sold their work. Marjorie will be remembered for her grace, creativity, and the harmony she brought to both her family and her community.
Marjorie is survived by her son, Gordon (Carol) Hobday, her daughters, Wendy (Charles) Haugh and JoAnn (Richard) Massad; her grandchildren, Katherine, Anne, Henry, Joshua (Elizabeth), Zachary (Andrea), Nicholas (Monica); her great grandchildren, Lilliana and Maxwell, and Freya. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, a dear sister-in-law, Virginia Sack, and her kind neighbor, David Vasko.
All are invited to a Mass which will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Calvary Episcopal Church, 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. Marjorie will rest with her husband in Calvary Episcopal Church Cemetery, Burnt Hills, NY. All are invited to attend a reception in the church hall immediately following the committal service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 41, Burnt Hills, NY 12027 or to Estherville Animal Shelter, 100 Russell Road, Greenfield Center, NY 12833.

Marjorie was a lovely, kind-hearted and talented woman that I had the pleasure of knowing for a number of years. I delivered meals to her on a regular basis with Office of the Aging and I thoroughly enjoyed these brief encounters with her. On one of these occasions she blessed me with one of her paintings which I proudly hang in my home. Jean Aabo
