Kenneth "Kenny" Ray Johnson was born on September 5, 1955, in Mohall, ND, to George and Gwenn Johnson. Within the year they relocated to a farm near DeSmet, SD, known as the "Spirit Lake Community". At age 2, Kenny's sister Deb was born.
Kenny began school in a one room school house then went on to DeSmet junior high. The family moved to Lakefield, MN, in his junior year of high school. While in school he broke numerous track records. He met Bonnie Jones at his senior school dance. Kenny graduated from Lakefield High School in 1973. He furthered his education at Hutchison Vo-Tech in mechanics.
Kenny and Bonnie were married on May 24th, 1975. They were married 49 years and welcomed three children, Nicole, Justin and Jared. Kenny and Bonnie started their life farming in 1976 near Buckman, MN, and together they established Johnson Tile in 1984. Kenny and his family resided there until 1987. At this which time they moved back to Lakefield where they continued with Johnson Tile. Kenny enjoyed working with farmers in his business. Later, his sons Justin and Jared helped in running Johnson Tile.
Kenny always had numerous other projects in the works. Several years ago, he added cattle and farming to his list of hobbies. Kenny loved cars and motorcycles or really anything with a motor. Kenny was known to live on the edge. He could repair or rebuild anything. If he couldn't find what he needed, he would make it. He was a mastermind at building and rigging up anything. Kenny cared deeply for his family and friends. His laugh was infectious. He could tell a good story and had many to tell. He had a kind heart and was generous with his time, self and talents.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Johnson of Lakefield, MN; children Nicole Johnson and her husband Steve Tidyman of Lakefield, MN; Jared (Angie) Johnson of Lakefield, MN; daughter-in-law Trishia (Matt) Bliesmer of Sherburn, MN; four grandchildren Aubree, Landen, Everly and Gracelyn; and his sister Debra Johnson of Brookings, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Justin.
