Kenneth Kuiper

Kenneth Wayne Kuiper was born on May 3rd, 1940, in Hartley, Iowa to Clarence and Allene (Calsbeek) Kuiper. Kenny grew in the Hartley, Iowa and Platte, SD area.
Kenny married Sharon Meis on April 14, 1960, at his parent's house, and they had four children: Kevin, Luann, Doug and Steven (Boomer).
Kenny graduated from Platte High School and attended one semester of college at Northwestern to play football. Kenny was in the Army National Guard for 20 plus years. He decided to return to Platte and help his father at the Home Implement John Deere shop until 1985 when the business was sold. He then purchased Woody's Lounge in 1986. In 2012 he sold Kuip's Lounge to his oldest son Kevin owning and operating still to this day.
Kenneth passed away on October 7, 2023, at the Platte Care Center in Platte, SD, at the age of 83.
Ken is survived by his four children: Kevin (Brenda) Kuiper of Platte, SD, Luann (Jim) Boyden of Platte, SD, Douglas (Karla) Kuiper of Pierre, SD, and Boomer (Christi) Kuiper of Platte, SD; ten grandchildren: Myles (Erin) Kuiper, Hayden (Jacy Finney) Kuiper, Cody (Jenny)Boyden, Jarrod (Jennifer) Boyden, Butter (Taylor DenBesten) Boydon, Parker (Torri) Boyden, Kendra Kuiper, Kayla (Chris) Gukeisen, Kenyon Kuiper, and Bohde Kuiper; and eight great grandchildren: Owen and Mason Gukeisen, Oliver Kuiper, Kezlee, Oakley, Ethan, Hayes and Beau Boyden. Ken is also survived by his three brothers: Don (Julie) Kuiper, Larry (Mary Beth) Kuiper and Randy (Pam) Kuiper.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his wife Sharon and his parents Clarence and Allene.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in memory of Kenneth to the Lake Platte Restoration Project.

A visitation for Kenneth Kuiper, age 83, of Platte, SD, will be held on Thursday, October 12th from 5-7PM with sharing of memories at 7pm at Mount-Smith Funeral Home Platte, SD. Burial will be at a later date.
