Mr. Kenneth James Leicht of Matamoras, PA, formerly of Port Jervis, NY, died Sunday, July 28, 2024 at his home with his wife by his side. He was 78. He was born June 27, 1946 in Port Jervis, NY the son of LaGrande Leicht and Carolyn Leicht. He was born and raised in Port Jervis and then later moved to Myrtle Beach, SC for 20 years before returning to his hometown. Kenneth worked in various occupations throughout his life. He was an Engineer for the railroad, he was the owner of Papers Plus in Port Jervis, and he was an Executive Chef at several restaurants, including the owner of Caddy Shack of Myrtle Beach, SC. He proudly served our country in the United States Army Rangers during Vietnam. He earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a Lifetime member of the Elk's Lodge in Port Jervis and the VFW Post #161 in Port Jervis. Ken loved to have a good time, gambling and partying with friends. He loved the New York Giants and the Yankees. He was the life of the party and would always get everyone's attention by yelling out, "I have an idea!"
Surviving are his loving wife Eva Leicht at home; 3 beloved children, Andrew and Erik Leicht, and Eva Barina; Grandchildren, Kamrynne, Zachary, Nathan, Julian, David, Natalie and Adam; His siblings, William Leicht (Carol) and Sandra Leicht; nephews, Christopher Scott and Brian Balmos; nieces, Michelle Leicht Rothwell, Diane Leicht Roberson and Amy Balmos Outwater. He was predeceased by his nephew, Patrick Scott and his brother-in-law, Tom Scott and also his ex-wife, Cathleen Smith.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Port Jervis Elks Lodge.
