Kenneth Orville "Ken" Moen

Kenneth Orville Moen, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in 1933 on the family farm in Nutley Township, Day County, South Dakota, Kenneth was welcomed with joy by his parents George I. Moen and Agnes V. Moen (Benson), and joined his siblings Orlin, Gilman, Clarice, Ardys, Deloris, Lola, and Margaret, with Gary and Linda soon to follow. He grew up learning the values of hard work, family and faith, spending his boyhood on the farm, attending District 166 country school, and joining his family at Saron Church each Sunday.
In 1947, the Moen family moved to Lambert, Montana, where Ken began working on farms at the young age of 14, earning a dollar a day along with room and board. He quickly developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong knowledge of farming and machinery. At 16, he proudly earned his driver's license and pursued correspondence courses, eventually receiving his diploma. In 1955, Ken was drafted and served honorably in Alaska as an Army Quartermaster, determined to do his best in every role he undertook.
In 1958, Ken married Janice E. Christensen, beginning a partnership that would carry them through decades of love, faith, and family. Together, they raised their family in Williston, where Ken worked in construction, sold insurance, and built a life centered around church, community, and family. Boundless in spirit, he was best known for his vast abilities, along with his love for flying airplanes, a sharp eye at auctions, and celebrating his Norwegian heritage. He enjoyed wearing his stilts in 4th of July parades as Uncle Sam, hunting pheasant and deer, and tackling countless adventures and close calls with courage and wit. Ken brought joy, strength, and wisdom to all who knew him.
Ken's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember him as a man who supported them in everything they did. Craig was proud to be his right-hand man and first call of the day, Kristi will always treasure his storytelling, and Leslyan found joy in caring for him during his final years.
He was deeply loved and admired by his children, siblings, family, and extended family, his dearest Patricia Hunke (and family), and many cherished friends. His presence was a blessing, and his memory will remain a source of strength and inspiration forever.
