David Leroy Moen,87, of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on August 29, 1937 in Bottineau, ND to his parents Lester and Clarice Moen, David's formative years were spent living on farms in Upham and Minot, ND with his loving household of brothers and sisters. After graduating from Minot High School, David studied engineering at the University of North Dakota. His career as an engineer spanned over five decades impacting countless lives at home and overseas. With Westinghouse, David traveled the world designing and constructing desalination plants to bring fresh water to countries like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, and Libya. In the second half of his career, he designed combustion turbines for power plants throughout the United States.
David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life was marked by quiet strength, unwavering love, endless patience, and a deep commitment to those he held dear. David's parents instilled in him the importance of religion, and his deep faith in God served as his center throughout his life. His family and friends recognized his gentle wisdom, generosity of spirit, and an unshakable love for family. David found great joy in spending time at the Jersey Shore, cheering for Philadelphia sports teams (especially the Phillies and Eagles), building things both at work and at home, and spending quality time with his family and close friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
David was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Maria Moen (Colello), with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories and partnership. Their love for each
other was pure, powerful, and enduring. David is survived by brothers Tillman and Layne Moen, sisters Solveig Springer and Cora Lee Schingnitz, and his two sons, Patrick (Danielle) and Christopher (Alisa). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren-Maxwell, Grace, Seth, Ethan, David, James, Wyatt, and Gianna-each of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life. His children, grandchildren, and all whose lives David touched will carry forward his integrity, kindness, patience, and resilience.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation Friday, July 25, 2025 10am at St. Madeline Church, 110 Park St. Ridley Park, PA 19078 and to his Funeral Mass, Friday 11am in the Church. Int.private.
The family asks that you honor David's memory by spending time with loved ones and embracing the simple joys he so treasured. If so moved, contributions can be made to the Choroideremia Research Foundation at 23 E. Brundreth Street, Springfield, MA 01109 or www.curechm.org, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for blindness that affected his son and many other members of the extended family.

Dave was always there with an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on when you needed it sometimes even before you knew you needed it. Quietly listening giving that soft encouraging patron the hand or back. With a couple of words had you feeling better and always loved. Never turned down the chance to talk about his favorite teams or that 1 line zinger out of left field just to make sure you were listening... I unfortunately lost my Grandfather when I was young and sometimes when I spent time with Dave he reminded me of my Grandpa. He was is and always will be one of the greatest men I had the privilege of knowing... Although he will be greatlt missed he will never be forgotten. Prayers to all who knew him.

My hero. My friend. Who will fix my butter churn the next time? I see you now in the animal refuge you created in the trees.
