Kenneth Douglas Moore, the cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, embarked on his final journey on January 20, 2025, in Kaufman, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and camaraderie that will resonate for generations.

Born on June 10, 1943, in the storied heart of Dallas, Kenneth exemplified a life devoted to service from an early age. His indelible mark on the firefighting community began in 1965 when the Balch Springs city manager walked out as he was loading up the city's trash truck, and asked if he could drive a firetruck. He said, "Well, it can't be much different than this trash truck". The city manager said "Come on then, we have a fire and we need a driver." Making him the first "paid" firefighter in Balch Springs. After that, he joined the Volunteer Fire Department and retired as the Volunteer Fire Chief of Balch Springs in 1990. His dedication and diligence propelled him to the esteemed position of the first Fire Chief of Dallas County Fire & Rescue, from 1983 to 1988. During his years of service he also guided many others in starting fire departments across the then booming north Texas.

Kenneth's presence was a tapestry woven with kindness and warmth. His gentle demeanor made all who encountered him feel at ease, whether they were fellow firefighters sharing tales of valor or family members gathering in fellowship. He found immense joy in visiting firehouses, swapping patches, engaging in lively conversations with firefighters, and rekindling the spirit of camaraderie that defined his extraordinary career. Kenneth was not one to shy away from adventure; his passion for "chasing fire" often had him following the faintest whiff of smoke, ever eager to protect and serve his community.

Beyond the call of duty, Kenneth embraced life with zest, pouring his heart into his home and hearth. Among his proudest accomplishments was PaPaw's Fire Hall, a testament to his dedication to firefighting. This cherished space became a sanctuary for his passion, where his prized firefighting equipment and memorabilia told stories of bravery and valor.

He leaves behind a loving family who will carry his memory with grace and pride. Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, with whom he shared 53 years of unwavering love; his daughters Rhonda Dillingham (spouse - Thomas) and Gail Cooper; grandchildren Brittani White (spouse – Jason), Bradley Cooper, Brandi Twyman (spouse – James), Matthew Dillingham, Kaitlyn Hardaway (spouse – Joshua), and Jonathan Dillingham; and great-grandchildren Jake White, Jaylan White, Jaron White, Jameson Twyman, and Kannon Twyman. He is also survived by his sister, Francis Blaylock, his in-laws Ricky and Brenda Anderson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth is reunited in peace with his parents, Robert George Moore and Fannie Mae Williams Moore, alongside his siblings Bobby Moore, Doris Caddell, Evelyn Lane, Loretta Adcox, and Gary Moore, who await him on the other side.

Kenneth Douglas Moore’s journey may have come to an end, but his light remains – a beacon guiding us through our own lives in the brave and selfless way he lived his.
