Kenneth Paul Oliver

Kenneth Paul Oliver, affectionately known as Ken, passed away on July 12, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on August 15, 1964, in Denton, Texas, Ken was an adventurer, entrepreneur, and free spirit whose vibrant energy left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Ken's entrepreneurial path took him across the country, from Washington, D.C. to California to Wilmington. He built several businesses along the way and was especially proud of the restaurant 1900 and clothing store Oliver, both well-loved spots in Wilmington.
A lifelong lover of the ocean, Ken found his greatest joy in the water. He loved surfing, fishing, free-diving, and boating. His perfect day was being out on the ocean with his two children.
Ken was known for his kind heart and a sense of humor that could make anyone laugh. He was loyal, generous, and full of energy.
He is survived by his children, Hunter Stephens Oliver and Ava Marie Oliver, both of Wilmington; his father John Hunter Oliver and stepmother Patricia Palmer Oliver of Washington, D.C.; and his longtime partner Ashley Lindenschmidt of Wilmington.
He is also survived by his stepsisters Debra Gersten of Laurel, Maryland, and Margaret Babbington of Washington, D.C. Ken also leaves behind many dear friends from all periods of his life and places he has lived as well as a large, close-knit extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who he loved and remained close to over the years.
Ken was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Jean Stephens and his stepfather, Robert Davis.
