Suzanne McCowen Obituary
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Suzanne "Suzy" L. McCowen, who departed this world on July 17, 2025 in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 84. Born on July 14, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, Suzy brought light and love into the lives of all who knew her.
Suzy attended Suring High School in Suring, Wisconsin, and graduated in 1959. After completing her education, she embarked on a journey to Chicago, where she began her career with Delta Airlines as a ticketing agent.
A woman of deep faith, Suzy was an active member of the Lutheran Church, where she found community and purpose. Her love for antiques led her to work part-time during the Christmas season in a specialty antique store, where she shared her knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
Suzy's adventurous spirit was evident in her love of travel. Alongside her husband, Jim, she explored the vast landscapes of the United States on numerous road trips and celebrated anniversaries on cruise ships, creating cherished memories together.
The heart of Suzy's joy was her cherished family. As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she delighted in gathering her family for holidays and celebrations, where her storytelling and warmth would light up the room. With boundless energy and a zest for life, Suzy was ever ready for a shopping trip or a leisurely drive, sharing laughter and creating lasting memories with those she loved.
Suzy and Jim moved several times between Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia before making Greensboro, NC their home. As a homemaker, she found fulfillment in raising her children and creating a nurturing environment filled with love.
Suzy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James "Jim" C. McCowen, III., in April 2021. We take comfort knowing they are reunited in peace. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Deborah M. Lasek (Leonard), James C. McCowen IV (Christie), and Melissa M. Bruce (Sean). Her grandchildren, Alexander Lasek (Virginia) and Emily Milligan (Gavin), will forever hold her dear in their hearts. She is also survived by her brother Russell Lasch, sisters Christine Stenzel, Bunny Reese-Heins, Mickey White, and Peggy Bartels, along with her cherished nieces and nephews.
Suzy's vibrant spirit, love for life, and dedication to her family and faith were an inspiration to all who knew her. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Please leave memories and condolences for Suzy's family under "Share a Memory".
