Kenneth Pietila Obituary

KENNETH G. PIETILA
December 15, 1935 ˜ June 25, 2023

The Vancouver community mourns the loss of Kenneth G. Pietila, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, stepfather, entrepreneur, and community member. Ken passed away on June 25, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, humor, and a deep love for his family. His loving wife, Karen Nickell, stood by his side throughout their shared adventures, offering unwavering support and companionship.

Ken was a devoted father to his children, Hollie Pietila Allen (husband Eric Allen) of Portland, OR, and Leif Pietila (wife Renee Martin) of Santa Barbara, CA. His grandson, Milo Ridenour, brought immense joy and pride to Ken’s life. He also embraced his role as a stepfather to Shawn Nickell (wife Tammy Nickell) of Carthage, TX, and Ron Nickell (now deceased) of Austin, TX, as well as his step-grandson Chase Nickell Shtogrin (wife Rachel) of Wentzville, MO, extending his love and care to his stepfamily.

Born on Dec. 15, 1935, Ken began his journey in life with a spirit of determination and a drive for success. He grew up on a farm in Hockinson, WA, with mother Agda, and brother and sister Harlyn and Sherri. His father, Fred, passed away when Ken was only 11 years old.

As a young man, Ken attended Battle Ground High School and later graduated from the University of Washington, and remained a Husky fan throughout his life. In addition, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Reserve.
Ken’s professional journey was marked by his entrepreneurial spirit and expertise in the real estate industry. In 2002, he established Pietila Properties, Inc., a property management business that thrived under his leadership. As a real estate broker and investor, Ken demonstrated a keen eye for opportunity and a passion for helping others.

Prior to his career in real estate, Ken specialized in industrial engineering, working for esteemed companies such as Boeing, Alcoa and Martin Marietta. Ken’s professional accomplishments were a testament to his exceptional work ethic and commitment to excellence.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Ken had a passion for classic cars. He was an avid collector and car enthusiast, and loved to immerse himself in car research.

Ken’s commitment to his community was also evident through his involvement on the board of the Vancouver Elks Lodge #823. He dedicated his time and energy to supporting the organization’s charitable initiatives, fostering a sense of camaraderie and service among its members. His contributions to the Elks Club left a lasting impact on the community, reflecting his selflessness and compassion.

Ken will be remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, and love for his family. His kind and gentle nature touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will endure through the memories he shared with his wife, children, grandson, stepfamily and countless friends.

The memory of Kenneth G. Pietila will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to be a part of his life. While he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will live on as a beacon of inspiration and love. Rest in peace, dear Ken, and may your journey beyond be as remarkable as the one you lived here on Earth.

Ken & Karen took great care of us while we were living in one of their rentals in Washougal. They were SO accommodating...and genuinely kind people. So when they needed help in buying a new car, I assisted in helping them put a new Subaru in their driveway. We are truly sorry for your loss Karen....hope and pray that God gives you peace and may He bless you and your family. T&S

Ken helped me get into a nice studio apartment when I really needed a safe place to live. He was a generous guy.
