Kenneth Barrington Salmon, age 93 of Conyers, died Monday, October 21, 2024.
Mr. Kenneth Barrington Salmon was the fifth child of eight siblings of the late Josephus and Vilna Salmon. He went to Baillieston Elementary School in Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies. He then attended Homewood Technical High School, where he studied electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, and metal work for three years. After graduation, Mr. Kenneth Salmon moved to Kingston, Jamaica, to live with one of his big brothers. During this time, he worked as a trainee electrician with RA Silveria & Company for about five years. Later, he went to work for The Jamaica Telephone Company as a telephone technician. With much thought and consideration, after a while, he decided to improve his education to make a better life for himself. He ventured to the United Kingdom to pursue his dreams and study electrical engineering and graduated. He then went on to work for the British Post Office as an electrical engineer. He worked for the company for twenty years and then retired. While living in the United Kingdom, he formed a union and bore three children, Carlton, Roxanne, and David Salmon. Kenneth was always on the move to pursue something better for his life and family. An opportunity presented itself for him to migrate to the United States of America, which was a very difficult decision to make knowing that his family was not willing to take on the venture with him. Sometimes in life there comes a time when one must make tough decisions. He was never afraid of taking risks, so with no regrets he was fortunate to land a job with the New York City Transit Metropolitan Transportation as a mechanical inspector. Kenneth worked with New York City Transit for over twenty years and then retired. After retirement, Kenneth relocated to West Palm Beach, Florida, to enjoy the beautiful warmth and sunshine for a while. During this time, he always wanted to help children with their education, so he took on a project in Jamaica that has blessed and helped some of the less fortunate children with scholarships. He strongly believed in reaching their individual goals in life; it would require a good education. His motto was, "Lend a helping hand along life's journey, and this will make the burden a little lighter." Being a family man, Mr. Kenneth knew that life was changing very rapidly, and he saw the need to be close to his siblings, who were all getting up in age, and he decided to make his last move to join them in
Conyers, Georgia, in the year 2014. Not very long after, he met and married his beautiful wife, Diana Salmon, on November 20, 2017, at the Smyrna Presbyterian Church at 2920 Highway 212,
Conyers, GA 30094. During this time, Kenneth was on Cloud Nine. He thanked the good LORD for providing a beautiful, companionate, kind, and loving wife to be by his side during the latter years of his life. He would say these words, "Thank you, LORD, you heard and answered my prayers; for providing someone who also likes peace and happiness in their surroundings." Kenneth loved to have fun by traveling, playing dominoes, and entertaining family and friends. One of his greatest joys is to make others feel comfortable and happy while in his company. His great sense of humor made it very relaxing to be in his company, where there was much laughter. He would always say, "It's nice to make others laugh." This was very important to him. Also, Mr. Kenneth would take time out to thank the good LORD for allowing him to set his earthly house in order before his transition to his new home. In this home he will have a new body where there will be no more pain, sorrows, sickness, or dying, and there will be peace forever more. One of the most important things for Kenneth was his love for God and his church family. Whatever it took, he would always support the work of the LORD. The Smyrna Presbyterian Church was a very special place to him. It was a joy for him to get dressed and ready to go whenever possible. Mr. Kenneth's health started declining. November 22, 2020, was his last visit to church. This was the Sunday before Thanksgiving when he mentioned to his wife, Diana, that he believed it was going to be his last time walking through the door of his church. After church that day, he asked his wife to take him to spend a little time with his eldest sister, Mrs. Grethel Moore. During this visit, they both sat and reminisced about the many things they went through with life and experiences. Some were sad and others were happy ones, which made them better individuals. On November 23, 2020, Mr. Kenneth was admitted to The Piedmont Rockdale Hospital where he spent one week, then was moved on to Rockdale Health Center for another few months. His health continued on a downward path. One of the most amazing things about Kenneth is that he never complained. He would only say, "The good LORD knows when to do what he must do. I am ready to go home and rest, and my body is very tired.' Mr. Kenneth Barrington Salmon made his exit Monday, October 21st, 2024, at 8:45 AM. So long, my friend, go to your eternal home and take your rest. In the book of Job, Chapters 14:14, the question was asked, if a man dies, shall he live again? Kenneth knew the answer was 'yes'. One day we will meet again. This gives us the assurance that God knew that Kenneth was tired and much-needed rest was important, so he called him home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Smyrna Presbyterian Church with Reverend Jill Ulrici officiating; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to donate to Smyrna Presbyterian Church.
