Kenneth "Ken" Schwall

Kenneth Martin "Ken" Schwall, age 61, went to Heaven on Tuesday morning, May 8, 2018, surrounded by his loving family and caregiving "angels". For the past 9 years he resided at Alden Estates of Barrington, where he passed. Ken is at peace after a 25 years battle with multiple sclerosis and other health conditions. He was born on March 30, 1957, in Elgin, IL, the eldest son of Martin and Jeanette Schwall. Ken graduated from Fremd High School in 1975 and attended Harper College. He later married his high school sweetheart, Penny (Cipri) on September 23, 1978, in Palatine, IL. They moved from Palatine to McHenry in 1983, where they raised their family. Ken was always a hard worker and supported his family working at UPS and W.W. Grainger, due to illnesses he was unable to be employed since 1999. Ken loved Jesus, family, friends, and everyone he met. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a peacemaker and had a kind and gentle spirit, he always made time to listen to others and help in any way he could. Ken loved nature and always had a passion for photography. He had a special place in his heart for animals, especially Fenway & Sweetie & his 3 Grand Pups. He trusted Jesus to get him through everything until the very end of his earthly life. In his weakness was his strength by God's great grace. God's light and strength poured out for all to witness through Ken. God Bless everyone who was a part of Kens care, especially the "Angels" from JourneyCare Hospice & Alden Estates, there are not enough words to describe our thankfulness. Ken is survived by his wife of 39 years; children, Christopher (Molly), Melissa, and Heather; siblings, Kathleen (Paul) Boley, Nancy Schwall (John), and Gregory Schwall. He is further survived by many other loving family members including: aunts, cousins, sisters & brothers-in law, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Jeanette Schwall; in-laws, John and Betty Cipri; and niece, Kerry Palka. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 17th from 3:00 pm-8:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry, IL 60050. Visitation will continue on Friday, May 18th at 1st United Methodist Church, 3717 Main St, McHenry, IL 60050 at 10:00 am until the time of Service at 11:00 am. Burial is to follow at Woodland Cemetery, McHenry. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Ken to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to JourneyCare Hospice of Barrington, 405 Lake Zurich Rd.
