Born October 13, 1928, in Fairmont, Minnesota, Ken was the son of Dr. Kenneth W. and Marian (Weiss) Scott. Ken graduated from Fairmont High School in 1946 and attended Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. He graduated from William Mitchel College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1959.
On January 22, 1950, Ken married Gloria Thompson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, MN. Ken farmed in Martin County until 1955 when he moved his family to St. Paul to attend law school. Following graduation, Ken and Gloria moved home to Fairmont. Ken practiced law with Dougherty and Scott. In the early years of his career, Ken entered politics and served two terms as a legislator in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Ken loved being an attorney and looked forward to going to work every day. After 45 years, Ken retired from his law career at the age of 77.
Ken was devoted to his wife, Gloria. The two were blessed with three children and two grandchildren with whom they found great joy.
Ken lived in Fairmont most of his life and was active in his community. A member of Grace Lutheran Church, he served twice as president of the church council. Ken was a lifelong member of the Interlaken Golf Club. Other interests included flying, with his first solo flight at age 15, hunting, traveling to the Bahamas, and jogging around the Fairmont lakes with Gloria and friends.
Ken will be dearly missed by his children, Mary Ellen Scott of Minneapolis, MN, Mark Scott of Palm Springs, CA, Susan Rae (David) of Excelsior, MN; grandchildren, Sophie Rae of Minneapolis, MN and Chloe Rae of Tucson, AZ; sisters, Margaret Tyler and Winifred Scott of Columbia, MO; nieces and nephews, Matthew Nielsen (Jennifer), Tom Tyler (Emily), Bob Tyler (Tracy), Marnie Tyler, Howard Ambrus (Brandy), and Rina Leon (Charlie); great-nieces and great-nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; parents, Kenneth W. and Marian Scott; in-laws, Rev. Arling and Ingeborg Thompson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Ken Nielsen; brother-in-law, Richard Tyler; and nephews, John Tyler and Michael Scott.
The family prefers that memorials be given in Ken's name to Grace Lutheran Church or United Hospital District (UHD) Hospice in Fairmont.
