Kenneth Keith Smith, affectionately known as "Chef Ken," passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 64. Born in
Hazard, Kentucky, Ken made his home in
Obetz, Ohio, where he shared his warmth and generosity with everyone he met.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Leigh Smith, children Kaila Delane Miller (Dylan) and Kenneth Kyle Smith (Skylar), and the "Kids' mom" Sheila Holbrook. He was a proud Pap to Claire, Charlotte, and Olive. He is also survived by his mother Winnie, brother Randy (Cindy), and sister Kathy Beckwith; nieces Susan and Jen (Kyle); nephews Billy and Nick (Lindsay); along with many other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Glyn, grandparents Ollie and Ken, and brother-in-law Bill.
Ken graduated from Hocking College with a Culinary Arts degree and spent nearly 30 years as a chef before pursuing a family passion as an over-the-road truck driver, traveling across the U.S. His greatest joy was being a husband, father, and Pap to his granddaughters. He loved cycling, swimming, and cooking five-star meals for family and friends. Ken never met a stranger-his front-yard bonfire was always ready for anyone who wanted to stop by. He also loved supporting local musicians throughout Ohio and spent many days as a coffee connoisseur at Stauf's or Brioso.
The family thanks the James Cancer Team at Martha Morehouse for their support during Ken's courageous five-year battle with cancer, overcoming many challenges while keeping a positive attitude-known as the patient with a groovy disco ball. Special thanks to OR Woodyard for handling cremation services.
