Kenneth Spears, Sr., was born in Florence County, SC in Effingham on January 14, 1925 to Dinah Eagleton Spears and George Spears. He peacefully departed this life on August 26, 2025 in his home.
He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Spring Branch Baptist Church where he worshipped faithfully for many years, later serving as a Deacon. He is known by those who knew him best for his long prayers and very fervent prayer life. His legacy of prayer is often revered and the conversation among his grandchildren. He is known for his laughter and his ability to always have a comeback. May his legacy of love and laughter live on.
He was educated in Florence County at the Woodland School in the Spring Branch community.
In his formative years, he learned to run a farm and developed a love for gardening, fishing, and hunting. He often planted a garden from which the community would enjoy a variety of fresh vegetables.
He worked as a farmer and also gained employment at Morris Plywood, Delta Mills, Electric Motors, and Ingram Lumber Company.
He was joined in holy matrimony to Mamie Ruth Williams and they were blessed to enjoy 81 years of marriage. To this union six children were born.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Ruth Spears; parents, Dinah and George Spears; brothers, Roosevelt (Rosie) Spears, Cornelius (Idella) Spears, Robert (Cornelia) Spears, and Lewis (Amanda) Spears; sisters, Tisbie Johnson, Louvenia Spears, Icerlean Eagleton, Elizabeth Davis, Inez Guile, grandson, Reverend Michael K. Spears; great-grand, Brittany Spears and son-in-law, Ivory Nowlin.
He leaves to mourn his passing, His children: Lishie Mae Nowlin, Kenneth (Yvonne) Spears, Jr., Odell (Joan) Spears, Benjamin Spears, Jocerlyn (Boice) Hardy, Anthony (Mary) Spears; special son, Nathaniel (Ann) Robinson; two sisters, Missouri Kennedy and Rose Sneed, one sister in-law, Loretta Williams; 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
