Clyde – Kenneth Eugene Stines, 76, of Clyde, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Kenneth was born on March 20, 1948 to his late parents, Charlie Alexander Stines and Ruth Louise Miller Stines. Along with his parents, preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Alexander Stines, Jr. and half brother, Robert Stines.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Tena Cathey Stines; daughter Tamra Rhinehart (Dean) of Waynesville; sons, Steve Stines (Angie) of Canton, and Ken Stines (Marsha) of Canton; a sister, Wanda Pressley (Sam); grandchildren, Ethan Rhinehart (Candace), Tenecia Conner and Dylan Kiser, all from Clyde; great grandchildren, Kylie, Annabelle, Kaiden, Emilee, Bella, Nadia and Madelynn. Being around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was one of his greatest joys. Special cousins, Gary (Annette), Jerry (Ivis), Sheila (Ernie), and Ben.
Kenneth was a native of Haywood County, where he worked 40 years and retired from Champion Paper, in 2008. He served in the United States Navy from 1965-1968, serving in the Seven Day War and early days on the shore in Vietnam. He also served in the United States Naval Reserves for 20 years. He started Walnut Point Campground, on Lake Chatuge, in 1985. He served in the Clyde Lions Club for 40+ years, and served all of the efforts of the Visually Impaired.
Kenneth loved the Lord and his church where he held many different positions.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Canton on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 2:00pm, with Pastors Chris Westmoreland, and Linda Arlene Hoxit officiating. The family will receive friends for Kenneth on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 12:30-2:00pm, in the chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Canton prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marjorie McCune Memorial Center for the benefit of Bill Osborne Cottage, 101 Lions Way, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
The care of Mr. Stines has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton and an online memorial register is available at “Obituaries” at www.wellsfuneralhome.com
