Mr. Kenneth D. "Ken" Weaver, 60, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina transitioned on February 15, 2024.
Mr. Kenneth Dwight Weaver, a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and leader, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024. He
was 60.
"Ken" Weaver, as he was known, was born Sept. 1, 1963 to Imogene Weaver McCain and Gerald White.
He is a 1982 graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High School, where he starred on the Gryphons football team. On the team, he broke several records and was named All-State, leading to a football scholarship at Winston-Salem State University. After leaving Winston Salem State University, Ken gained employment with the residency care business, where he served as an in-service assistant to children with disabilities. Ken was later employed with the North Carolina School for the blind. Here, he assisted students with vision impairments to navigate and live independent lives with vision limitations.
Ken was passionate about Diabetes research, education, treatment, and awareness. He often participated in studies that dealt with understanding genetic diabetes, insulin research, and complications with organs directly relating to diabetes. In 2022, he volunteered to be interviewed in a research study with the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) for type 1 diabetics with a genetic pattern.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother, Imogene Weaver McCain, father, Gerald Jerome White, and a brother, Melvin Maxwell.
Left to cherish in his memory is one son, Kenny Maleik Bynum of Rocky Mount, NC; two grandchildren, Karrington Lovett of Greensboro, NC and Zyion Pittman of Rocky Mount, NC; two brothers, Maurice "Pete" Weaver (Cynthia) of Rocky Mount, NC and Victor Daryl Weaver of Durham, NC; three sisters, Geraldine Herring of Las Vegas, Nevada, Tanya Weaver of Chesapeake, Virginia and Kimberly Pender (George) of Virginia Beach, Virginia.; one aunt, Lou Hill (Carl) of Kinston, NC; and one uncle, James Weaver (Sheila) of Madison, Alabama, seven nieces, Shakethia Arrington (Desman), Gabrielle Messina, Gerlinda Herring, Stephanie Brinkley(Tenille), Laquay Evans, Shermayne Flowers, Jasmine Pender, Zaynae Maxwell and Jada Pender, six nephews, Maurice Weaver (April), Daryl Weaver, Asada Harris(Michala), Gary Herring, Anre Anduha and Gerald Herring, special cousins, Matthew Weaver, Michael Weaver, Vanglee Jones, Jr. (Uduak) and Arthur Lee "Scudda" Parker III and a host other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Weaver will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2023 at the chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home, 325 Nash Street Rocky Mount, North Carolina, beginning at 2:00 pm.
