Kenneth Williams Obituary
Published by Legacy on Dec. 9, 2025.
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of The Reverend Dr. Kenneth Charles Williams, affectionately known as Ken, Dad, and Pa who died peacefully at home in Denver, Colorado on November 28, 2025, five days after his 74th birthday. Ken was born in the San Francisco Bay Area on November 24, 1951. He was the 3rd son of the late John Beatie Williams and his wife Dorothy Banker Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathy Mullin and their children: Alex and her spouse Jay Graves; Erin and her spouse Stewart Francis; and Russell and his spouse Jordyn. Ken was a proud grandfather to Madeline (15), Bobbi (11), George (9), Ollie (7), and Decker (1). He is also survived by his 3 brothers, Mike, Steve, and Bob.
Ken grew up in Orinda, California. He was in a horrific car accident when he was a junior in high school, resulting in injuries requiring him to be in a body cast for 6 months. This was challenging in many ways but also was the catalyst to question the meaning of life several years later while studying at San Diego State University.
Ken would go on to earn his Master of Divinity at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, and a PhD in Systematic Theology from Boston College and Andover Newton Theological Seminary. He referred to this time as when he "fell in love with learning." He also fell in love with and married his college sweetheart, Kathy. Ken loved to teach and preach. He loved the people of Rockland Community Church where he pastored for 31 years, the longest serving pastor in the church's 145-year history. He was a leader in the pastor/theologian program sponsored by the Center in Theological Inquiry in Princeton and spent a sabbatical there for the purpose of theological reflection and writing.
In addition to the joy in pastoring, he loved increasing church outreach locally and internationally, and leading
numerous trips with members of the congregation. Ken's daily rituals included prayer, exercise, reading (often multiple books at a time), and nightly recaps of the day with Kathy. He loved riding his bike and catching sunsets. He loved Winter Park, collie dogs, and the Red Sox. He was a dedicated dad and grandpa, showing up to support his family in all of their big moments. He was diagnosed in May with a rare, aggressive form of cancer that he fought
hard, with grit, conviction, and grace. His family was by his side surrounding him with love and support.
A memorial service and reception are planned for Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 1pm at Rockland Community Church. If you would like to make a memorial contribution in Ken's name, the family requests you make it to: Rockland Community Church or Arvada Covenant Church and ask it to be spent at the discretion of the pastors.
