Kent Marvin Barber departed this life on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital, Fayetteville, NC, after a battle with lung cancer. He was born July 6, 1958, in Jacksonville, NC, to the late Dorothy Barber and Johnny Barber of Kellumtown, NC. Kent was raised in Kinston, NC, and attended the Kinston City Schools. After high school, he spent several years in New Jersey before returning to North Carolina. He was an employee of AAA Sanitation and Black & Decker, and later in life, he worked as an independent contractor in general maintenance. One of his most significant accomplishments was surpassing eight years of sobriety. He regularly attended Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and accepted Christ as his Savior. Kent was loved and surrounded by his family when he passed. He leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Evelyn Barber of Greensboro, NC, Laura (Larry) Williams of Foristell, MO, and Alison Williams of Hope Mills, NC; three brothers, Johnnie Hawkins (Rose Williams) of Spring Lake, NC, Jerome Barber of Fayetteville, NC and Sterling Brown of Trenton, NJ, four aunts, Barbara Winn, Linda Henderson, Rosalind Stanley and Gloria Gerald and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The community's support and care are deeply appreciated as we entrust the Funeral Services to Paye Memorial Funeral Establishment of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
