Kent Boswell Harney, a cherished and profoundly loved family man and friend, passed away at the age of 77 on September 30, 2025, in Pinson, Alabama. Born on August 12, 1948, in Paris, Kentucky, Kent's generous spirit and hearty laugh touched all corners of his world, leaving an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
From his childhood in the rolling landscapes of Kentucky, Kent grew into a man of integrity and warmth. As a retired owner and operator of a truck driving business, he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly disposition. In his earlier years, he served the community of Paris as a dedicated police officer, a testament to his lifelong commitment to service and protection. He was of the Christian faith, actively participating as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where his kindness and guidance were felt by many.
Kent's zest for life was infectious. An avid fan of Alabama Football and Kentucky Basketball, his enthusiasm for the game was paralleled only by his love for his family. He found great joy in his collection of rare money and knives and had a well-known affinity for fast cars.
A testament to his legacy is his large and loving family, to whom he was not just a patriarch but a constant source of laughter and kindness. Kent is survived by his five children, Jennifer (Jewell) Vest, Ginger (Bill) Powell, Billy Harney, Kent (Ashley) Harney, Jr., and Jason (Ann) Harney. His proud lineage includes nineteen grandchildren-Joshua, James, and Justin Vest; Christeen Redden; Samantha Judy; Drake and Alicia Powell; Callie Ramirez; Billy Harney, Jr.; Katelyn Straw; Kent Harney III; Parker, Joshua, Ava, Amelia, Evelyn, Abigail, Lillian, and Brook Harney-as well as thirteen great-grandchildren-Evie, Lydia, Silas, Lilliana, William, Willow, Grayson, Owen, Weller, Ocoee, Seven, Eleanor, and Elizabeth-whose lives he enriched with stories, wisdom, and unconditional love.
Kent was a beloved brother to Jerome Harney, Peggy Moore, and Jane McNabb, and he will be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. His reunion in the hereafter with his adored wife, Mary Gambill Harney, his parents, Robert Bramlette Harney and Mary Wilma Tally Harney, and his brothers, Larry and Bobby Harney, though bittersweet for those left behind, is envisioned as a joyous one.
Described by those who knew him best as kind, friendly, and funny, Kent's radiant personality made him a friend to many. His laughter was a beacon of joy, and his guidance a comfort in times of need. The void he leaves behind is matched only by the fullness of the memories he created.
Kent Boswell Harney lived his life as a testament to the things he valued most-family, faith, friendship, and the simple joys of life that connect us all. As we bid him farewell, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
