Kent Jarvis Obituary

Visit the Larkin Sunset Gardens - Sandy website to view the full obituary.
Kent Graham Jarvis, son of James Keith Jarvis and Annie Marian (Graham) Jarvis, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 15, 2025. He was born on January 25, 1942, in Provo, Utah.

While growing up in Provo, Kent found his life-long love for electronics. He graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1960. After high school, he took odd jobs repairing radios and televisions. He was a television broadcast engineer for KUTV (1961-1963), head product assurance at Signetics Corporation in Orem (1969-1970). He wanted to take his love for gadgets to the next level, so with two children, he made the decision to attend Brigham Young University. He worked for his mother's family printing business during the day and attended classes at night. This was a very difficult time for Jayanne and a young family. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from BYU in Electrical Engineering in 1975. Upon graduation he moved with his wife and now three children to West Jordan, Utah. He took a job with Utah Power & Light Company in Salt Lake City. He worked as a senior engineer (1984-1993). He was always crunching numbers and writing programs for the company. He continued to work there until his retirement in 1993.

Kent and Jayanne were married on July 12, 1963, they were sealed on June 2, 1965, in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their life together in West Jordan and later in Sandy. They raised three sons Ryan, Mark and Greg.

Kent was a member of Mensa, a high-IQ society for individuals who have scored in the top 2% via intelligence testing. He is referenced in the publications, "Who's who in America" and "Who's who in Science and Engineering". He loved computers, ham radio operations, mathematics, physics, cars, BYU sports, model airplanes, cats and anything that plugged in, had a battery, a speaker or lit up.

Proceeded in death by Annie Marian Jarvis and James Keith Jarvis.

He is survived by his loving wife Jayanne; three sons, Ryan, Mark (Tess), and Greg; as well as one grandchild Morgan Huber (Hunter).

We thank healthcare professionals with Home Health and Hospice as well as friends, family, and neighbors for their kind service to Kent.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the LDS church located at 2195 E. Pepperwood Drive (10900 South) in Sandy. Funeral services will immediately follow the viewing at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be at Larkin Cemetery in Sandy. 1950 East 10600 South.
