Kent G. Kilstrom

August 19, 1953 - March 14, 2024

SIOUX CITY - Kent G. Kilstrom, 70, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at his residence surrounded by family. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Calvary Lutheran Church. The service will be livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel, @calvaryleeds. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., Monday evening at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Kent was born on August 19, 1953 in Akron, Iowa, to Gordon and Marian (McDougall) Kilstrom. He grew up in Akron and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He graduated from Akron High School in 1971 and went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in business from Westmar college in Le Mars in 1975. Following graduation, Kent moved to Sioux City where he remained throughout his life.

On August 22, 1981, Kent married Juliana Junck at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City. To this union, three children were born: Derek, Courtney, and Kallie. Kent was an involved member of Calvary Lutheran Church for many years, and served as an usher and an elder in the congregation.

After college, Kent began a career in sales with Binnebose Wholesale. He later drove truck for Palmer Candy and managed local convenience stores. He went on to become a driver for LifeServe Blood Center.

Kent was a huge sports fan and could always be found rooting on the Bears, Yankees, Celtics and Hawkeyes. He coached baseball at Headed Little League during his children's younger years and strove to teach his younger brother Steve and his son Derek how to pitch! He also enjoyed taking his kids golfing and participated in golf leagues in his younger years. He was also an animal lover, especially his dogs. He enjoyed grilling out for his family and could always turn even a cheap cut of meat into a delicacy! Kent adored his children and grandchildren, and cherished spending time with them in any way that he could.

He had a wonderful support system in Juliana as his spouse and caregiver.

He is survived by his wife, Juliana Kilstrom of Sioux City; children: Derek Kilstrom (Ashley) of West Des Moines, Courtney Cortez (Douglas) of Sioux City, and Kallie Etter (Ryan) of Sioux City; grandchildren: Conor Kilstrom, Andrew Cortez, Sean Kilstrom, Austin Cortez, Emersyn Etter, and Avery Etter; a brother, Steve Kilstrom of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Marsha Watts.
