Kent A. LaVergne, a beloved member of the Groves community, passed away on December 23, 2024, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on July 28, 1960, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Carroll "Sonny" Eugene LaVergne and Betty Ann Colligan (LaVergne), both of whom have preceded him in death.

Kent retired as an operator from Valero and was a member of USW Local 13-423. In addition to a distinguished career, he also demonstrated his commitment to service as a member of the fire team and volunteered with the Groves Volunteer Fire Department. His dedication to his work and community was evident in all he did. Additionally, Kent proudly served in the Navy, earning honors that reflected his bravery and commitment to his country.

He was a member of the choir at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Peters Catholic Church. He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus Council #3491. He loved riding motorcycles, woodworking, playing his guitar, and playing poker. He never met a stranger, and anywhere he went he would see someone he knew.

He is lovingly remembered by his family, including his daughter, Alyssa LaVergne (Lauren) of Groves, his sister, Vanessa Hinson (Mike) of Groves, his sister, Debbie Blanchard (Marcel) of LaVernia; and his brother, Tod LaVergne (Michelle) of Port Neches, and several nieces and nephews. Kent's legacy will live on through the cherished memories he created with his loved ones.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the visitation, which will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm with a rosary at 5:00 pm at Melancon~Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, 5601 39th St, Groves, TX 77619. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the same location with graveside service to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, where Kent’s life and contributions to his family and community will be honored and celebrated.
