Kent Charles Rogers passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, September 22, 2023. His beloved wife of 50 years, Margo, was by his side. Kent is survived by his two children, Kent Charles Rogers Jr. (Vanessa), and Paula Diane Rogers, as well as a young grandson, Elliot Charles Rogers. Kent is also survived by his sister, Jean Collier (Curtis) and his niece and nephew and their families. Kent loved his family very much, and he will be dearly missed.
Kent will be remembered for his quiet brilliance, witty sense of humor, love of animals and nature, and heartfelt dedication to his family. He loved history and often entertained/teased his family, including his sister-in-law Dottie Beall, by spontaneously reciting The Gettysburg Address from memory during their many summer road trips. He was an avid bird watcher with countless sets of binoculars, and spent many happy hours in his beloved woods with Kent Jr., Margo, and their friends Herb and Theresa. He loved the trips and cruises that he took in retirement with Margo and Dottie, and the three of them had a lot of fun.
Kent's brilliance for all things technical and mathematical was truly remarkable. He consistently supported and delighted his family with his talents–from helping Margo establish an automated accounting business that would go on to become their family business, Rogers & Rogers CPA firm, for 30 years, to building a computer by hand for Kent Jr. and Paula to play video games. A lifelong learner, Kent earned five college degrees in his life, two Bachelor's and three Master's, and was an avid reader of history, physics, literature, and astronomy. His intellectual curiosity lives on to inspire his family to engage with all the big questions and small pleasures this world has to offer. But despite all of his accomplishments, Kent was most proud of his two children, Kent Jr. and Paula.
Most of all, Kent will be remembered for his integrity, and his kindness and gentle spirit. His family often referred to him as a big teddy bear, and his greatest joy was simply spending time with them. He was a loving husband to Margo as they raised their family and ran their business. He was a devoted father to Kent Jr. and Paula, coaching many of their childhood activities like baseball and Odyssey of the Mind. Kent leaves behind decades of wonderful memories in his words, his deeds, and his example, for which his family is deeply grateful and will cherish for the rest of their lives.
The family is sincerely thankful for the special people who helped care for Kent in his final chapter. We are forever grateful to Britney Beck, who tenderly cared for Kent like family and played many games of his favorite trivia with him. We are forever grateful to the exceptional and loving caregivers at Arbor Hills Memory Care in Plano, who cared for him with such compassion and truly saw him for the man that he was.
Per Kent's wishes, services will be private and held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kent's memory may be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (https://www.classy.org/give/381228/#!/donation/checkout) and are greatly appreciated. And every so often, look up and admire the stars.
