Kent Boyd West, born on February 4, 1937, peacefully passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana, on
September 27, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that exemplifies a life well-lived.
Kent was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was a young entrepreneur- the local
paperboy. He graduated from Broad Ripple High School, and then eagerly pursued higher
education, earning his undergraduate degree from DePauw University and his graduate degree
from Indiana University.
For 38 years, Kent dedicated his professional life to Dow Chemical, where he made significant
contributions in the field of marketing research. Nature held a special place in Kent’s heart,
and he cherished summers at the family lake house in northern Wisconsin. An avid water-skier,
he and his family participated in ski performances for shoreside fans. When his son Andy was young,
Kent enjoyed taking him camping and volunteering time to the Boy Scouts organization.
His disposition was warm and caring, particularly during the tender moments he shared with his daughter Kerry,
who had significant special needs.
After Kent’s retirement, he and his wife, Cheryl West, embraced their passion for traveling. To
satisfy his love of learning, places of historical significance were Kent’s favorite places to visit. He
found great joy in the game of golf, spending time with family, and simply reading a good book.
A cherished tradition in Kent’s life was spending Wednesday nights at the White River Yacht Club with dear
friends. Rarely did a week go by that Kent wasn’t with the “boys” celebrating life over dinner.
Kent is preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl West; ex-wife and mother of his children, Patsy
Gartley; sister, Karen Reiman; daughter, Kerry West; and infant daughter, Angie West.
He is survived by his son, Andrew West; cousins, Jan Noller; Kim Noller; Randa Noller; Celeste
Edwards; Kelly Eskew, Phil Jr. Eskew, as well as many other distant relatives.
In Kent’s memory, may we find inspiration in the love he shared with family and friends. As we
bid farewell to a beloved soul, let us remember the laughter, the moments of kindness, and the
enduring legacy of a life well-lived. Kent Boyd West will remain forever in our hearts, a guiding
light that continues to shine brightly.
