Keven Scott Peterson, a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather of West Valley City, Utah, passed away in Murray, Utah, on August 11, 2025, at the age of 67.
Born in Salt Lake City on April 26, 1958, to Gerald and Patricia Peterson, Keven was the oldest of eight siblings. In 1983, he married Andrea Cutler, and they had two children together. Though they later divorced, they remained friends throughout their lives. Keven attended Granger High School and served in the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard from 1975 to 1981. During his military service, he received specialized training in refueling trucks and heavy equipment and earned a certificate as a Specialized Vehicle Mechanic. His technical skills and dedication laid the foundation for much of his future work.
He worked primarily as a diesel mechanic for the Department of Defense at Tooele Army Depot. Later, he continued his education at Salt Lake Community College, earning an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Construction Management and Building. Keven was a devoted, loving father to Jessica and Brandon, a cherished grandfather to Alyssa, Vanessa, Hailey, Magan, Wylie, and Jaeger, and a proud great-grandfather to Huxlee and Halstyn. He shared many life lessons with his family-be humble and kind, keepan open mind, treat others fairly, appreciate creativity, individuality, and the beauty of nature. He especially loved taking his grandkids to the park, zoo, playing with toy cars, and spending quality time with them whenever he could.
As a Christian, Keven deeply valued his faith and admired his Creator. Family was central to his life-he always made sure his children, grandchildren felt loved, included, and supported. He was incredibly intelligent, outgoing, and generous. Right up to the end, he was helping others-the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He lived with passion and purpose, making bold decisions and embracing life fully.
A perfectionist and storyteller, Keven was creative, hilarious, sometimes fiercely protective, and deeply loyal. He was talented in many disciplines, including carpentry, auto mechanics, landscaping, engineering, photography, self-defense, and philosophy. Above all, he was unwaveringly devoted to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Keven was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Patricia, his sisters, Patti and Jen. He is survived by his stepfather, Arlen Atkinson, and stepmother, Penny Peterson; his children, Jessica (Ian) Jacobi and Brandon Peterson; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at City View Mortuary, 1001 E 11th Ave, Salt Lake City, UT 84103 Military Honors will follow.
