Kevin Lewis Barnes
June 2, 1975 - October 3, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Lewis Barnes, a beloved member of the Calallen community. Kevin departed from us on October 3, 2025 at the age of 50.
Kevin was a truly remarkable individual who touched the lives of many. A proud veteran, he honorably served his country in the Air Force. Following his military service, Kevin attended Incarnate Word University and obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Communications. He then began working for Cox Radio Station as a Sales Representative in San Antonio, Texas. He enjoyed his career and excelled at it. Most recently, he was a Truancy Officer for Calallen Independent School District. His commitment to the students and staff of Calallen was evident in everything he did; he was always smiling, encouraging, and made everyone feel special.
Beyond his professional life, Kevin was a man of many talents and passions. Professionally known as "DJ Rewind," he brought joy to countless events. He was a distinguished Brother of the Chi Phi Fraternity, initiated into the Mu Theta chapter in 2004. His service to the fraternity continued at the highest level, where he was a dedicated member of the Grand Council, focusing his time and passion on Alumni Development to strengthen the bonds between Brothers nationwide. As a truancy officer for Calallen ISD, he also served as the Vice Chair for the Non-profit Organization-Truancy Round Table. He was a mentor, and a friend to countless individuals. He was the kind of person who always rooted for others, especially his students, cheering them on in their endeavors and celebrating their successes.
Kevin was a loving husband to Nisha Olgin, and a devoted father to Isabella Raelynne Olgin-Barnes, Vincent Barnes, and Michael Barnes and brother to Debra Riojas, Cassandra Williams and Sebrena Barnes. He instilled pride and confidence in his children and was his wife's confidante and cheerleader. Theirs was a bond of deep love and mutual respect. Kevin's light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest easy, friend – your impact on our lives will never be forgotten.
