Obituary for Kevin Michael Benedict
June 12, 1984 – November 3, 2025
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." - Psalm 116:15
With hearts both heavy with loss and full of hope in Christ, we announce that Kevin Michael Benedict, 41, of Brighton, Missouri, entered into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 3, 2025.
Kevin was born on June 12, 1984, in
Springfield, Missouri, to Mary Benedict and the late James Terrence Benedict. He was a devoted husband to Jennifer ("Jenni") Benedict, and a loving, intentional father to Gavin, Noah, and Isabelle Benedict - leading his home with humility, strength, and a heart anchored in Scripture. Kevin cherished his family deeply, seeing fatherhood and marriage as sacred callings through which he could mirror the love of Christ.
Kevin is lovingly remembered by his mother, Mary Benedict, and his siblings - Terri Lynn and Jeff Freeland, Jason and Jennifer Benedict, Stephanie and Tim Matthews, and David and Hailey Benedict. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family, and beloved brothers and sisters in Christ.
Kevin was a faithful attendee of WellSpring Baptist Fellowship in Bolivar, Missouri, where he joyfully served and fellowshipped. His passion for God's Word and the truth of the Gospel shaped every aspect of his life. Whether at church, at work, or at home, Kevin sought to live out the Great Commission - making disciples, encouraging others in faith, and pointing every heart toward the sufficiency of Christ.
Professionally, Kevin served the Springfield community for sixteen years as a Corporal with the Springfield Police Department. As a Field Training Officer and member of the Special Response Team (SRT), he was known for his courage, calm leadership, and compassion for those he served. His sense of duty was not born from pride, but from conviction - that all work, done unto the Lord, is an act of worship.
Kevin found joy in the simple gifts of God's creation - time spent fishing, working with his hands, and teaching his children. He loved the stillness of the outdoors and the laughter of his family, often reflecting on the goodness of God in both quiet and trial. Those who knew Kevin will also remember his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor - a joy that could lighten a room and put others at ease, even in difficult times. His laughter was genuine and often pointed others back to the joy found in Christ.
His favorite passage, 2 Corinthians 4:16–18, reminds us of the eternal perspective he lived by:
"So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day... For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."
Kevin's life was a testimony of God's grace and steadfast faithfulness. His family and friends will remember his steady spirit, his humility, his humor, and his constant desire to glorify God in all things.
A celebration of Kevin's life and faith will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at WellSpring Baptist Fellowship, with Dr. John Wheeler officiating.
