Kevin Martin DeMerritt, age 58, passed away suddenly, on January 7, 2024, in Moxee, Washington. Kevin was born at Bellevue Memorial Hospital. He is the son of Larry DeMerritt and Judy Gardner.
When he was a junior in high school he moved to Prosser, Washington, where he worked at the local grocery store, Evan Bro's Market. He was known for his blue Volkswagen Bug and hanging out with his best friend, Dwight. He graduated from Prosser High School, home of the Mustangs, in 1984.
Kevin married Marla Dunning, of Prosser, and had two children. He was a dedicated and loving father. His kids were his world. He was known for his big Saturday breakfasts and silly quotes.
In the fall of 1998, he took a chance on a good friend, Dave Fergus, and helped start Dave's dream business, Avalanche Distributing. Kevin was Dave's first delivery driver. When Avalanche sold, in April of 2022, to Dillanos Coffee Roasters, Kevin still stayed on as a driver with DCR. Kevin was known all over the valley for delivering coffee products to local coffee shops. On a lot of weeks, he would cover almost 1,000 miles serving his customers. He always said, "I do the miles to see the smiles."
Kevin is known for his love of the open road, a good Bob Seger song, and the outdoors. He was happiest when he was out hunting, fishing, camping, or boating. He shared that passion and love for the outdoors with his children, grandchildren, and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Kaitlin Yoerger (Mike), son, Kyle DeMerritt, grandchildren, Molly and Brooklyn Yoerger, father, Larry DeMerritt (Dotty), sister, Kim Mortensen, best friend, Dwight French (and family), and many more loved ones. He is preceded in death by his mother, Judy Gardner, and friend, Dave Fergus.
A Celebration of Life for Kevin will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 12:00pm, at Brookside Funeral Home (500 W. Prospect, Moxee, WA).
Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.brooksidefuneral.com.
