Obituary of Kevin Fernando Dorantes
With tremendous sorrow, the Dorantes family announces the passing of Kevin Dorantes. He was just 29 years old. Kevin, was born on June 16, 1993, in California, but always identified as a Vegas native. He was an avid baseball lover his whole life, and played baseball while a student at Cimarron High School. After graduation, he transferred to Cochise College in Arizona, where he pitched his team to the JUCO World Series. At Dixie State College, he played his final season of college baseball.
He moved to Mexico to play baseball, realizing shortly after college that he could not live without the game. His desire to return to Las Vegas and resume living the Isleno lifestyle was clearly expressed after playing baseball in Mexico. Kevin was delighted to start giving his time to helping develop younger baseball players when he moved back to Vegas, and his family was overjoyed to see him.
He was always looking forward to bettering himself, which led to him becoming a restaurant manager at various local restaurants throughout the city. Most recently, Kevin helped manage Virgil's Real BBQ restaurant at The Linq, where he grew the most in his career and created lasting memories with his crew and customers.
Kevin loved being in nature and often was found hiking with his dogs on top of Mt. Charleston, taking in the sunrises and sunsets. He was an adventurous soul who lived for thrill-seeking adventures and spent many moments capturing life on his bike as he rode throughout the city, taking in life and capturing it in videos for others to view.
The loss of Kevin is indescribable, and those who had the honor of knowing him and meeting him have shared countless treasured memories of him with all of us. For many of us, the anguish is excruciating, but we find solace in the knowledge that of all the things Kevin did in his life-living it fully and delivering joy and happiness to those he loved-was always at the top of his list. We will miss his shining presence, contagious grin, positive outlook on life, and how he loved so many people.
No amount of words, Papa, will ever be able to make up for what you have left behind. Your parents, brothers, sisters, brother/sisters-in-law, and nephews will never forget you and will always cherish the memories of you. Thank you for the happy and painful moments that we were fortunate to share together. Every minute we spent with you will be permanently etched in our hearts. You will travel with us everywhere we go. Until we meet again in this life or the next, we will find you in our dreams, where we will see your smiling face once more and hear your laughter echo in our hearts,
From the entire Dorantes family, we wish to thank everyone for their unending support during these trying times. We, and Kevin, love you all.
