Kevin Hogan Obituary

Kevin J Hogan, of Newington, peacefully died on Friday, September 22, 2023. Kevin was born on May 6, 1961 with Down Syndrome. Born at a time when intellectual and physical challenges were considered a tragedy, Kevin's family loved him and supported him over the last 62 years. Kevin's parents, who preceded him in death, Eileen C. and John D. Hogan Jr., Newington, taught their family what a gift Kevin was through their example of love and devotion to their profoundly intellectually challenged son. In his younger years, Kevin participated in the Special Olympics, winning a medal for his running ability. Always, with a mischievous smile, Kevin was surrounded with love, guidance and protection by all his siblings who include, Maureen H. Klett, of Greenwood, SC, John D. Hogan, III, of Central Vermont, Kathleen A. Pignone, (Tom) of Newington, and Trisha Drugg, (Scott) of East Wakefield, NH. Kevin also leaves his sister-in-law, Nancy Hogan, many nieces, nephews and cousins to celebrate his freedom from a lifetime of challenges, and who learned through their Uncle Kevin the importance of supporting those less fortunate. He was also predeceased in death by two older brothers that he adored, Daniel M. Hogan and Timothy W. Hogan. In addition to his parents and brothers, Kevin was preceded in death by his nephew, Ryan C. Drugg and brother-in-law, Richard A. Klett. Kevin's family would like to thank the staff of The Hospital of Central Connecticut for their care and compassion provided to Kevin at the end of his life. Kevin's family truly appreciates their advocacy for Kevin who could not advocate for himself. Kevin's family would also like to thank the staff at Raynel Road, Newington, CT - Aminah, Luz, Tatiana's, Jaleesa, Ashley, Amanda, Danielle, Melanie, Aron and Louis, who provided constant love and compassionately cared for Kevin. You were his family too. Your love and concern was always a comfort to Kevin's family. The family would also like to thank the many employees of the Department of Developmental Services throughout the years who added joy to Kevin's life. A special thanks to Stacy Dawes, DDS Health Service Director who helped ensure the quality of Kevin's life at the end of his journey. You were the bright light during a most difficult time. Burial will be private. Funeral services are being conducted by Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. The family requests that anyone who wishes to make a donation in Kevin's name, send donations to CT Special Olympics at www.soct.org. We will forever miss those beautiful blue eyes and big hugs, but take comfort in knowing you are free of the challenges that life handed you and wrapped in our Mother's arms once again.
