Kevin Steele Obituary
Kevin Steele was born on November 16, 1958, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Alvah and Corelia Steele. He was raised in the Newark Public School System, where his love for basketball took root and flourished.
Education & Athletics
Kevin's athletic talent earned him a basketball scholarship to Laurinburg Institute, where he continued to grow both academically and athletically. As a proud Golden Tiger, he made an immediate impact.
His years playing in Newark's schoolyards and playgrounds shaped his remarkable court sense and competitive spirit. Kevin's dedication and skill earned him recognition as Athlete of the Week, and he helped lead the Tigers to advance in the State Independence Playoffs.
Life & Legacy
After college, Kevin faced many of life's challenges and struggles until peacefully passing in his sleep.
Family
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bessie and Elizabeth Steele; and one brother, Alvah Steele.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Ceola Steele; one brother, James Steele; five nieces and three nephews; and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family, and friends.
Forever Remembered
Kevin will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his strength, his spirit, and the joy he brought to those who knew him.
