Kevin M. Thomas, 72, of Topeka passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024 after battling Parkinson Disease and two broken hips. Kevin was born on April 9, 1952 at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka Kansas. Many of his early years were spent with his friend’s that lived in Central Park and Chesney Park where he spent a lot of his time. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1970. He was employed by Brewster Place, Western Typewriter, Terminix and Herman Kittle Properties. Kevin joined the Army National Guard in 1973 and retired in 2012, serving in the 714th Maintenance Company drilling in Topeka and Junction City, Kansas.
He married Cindy Lou Rice Thomas on April 28, 2001 in Topeka, Kansas, she survives of the home. Other survivors include his mother, Irma Gordon Thomas; one son, Jeremy Michael Thomas; two step sons, Michael and Samuel Reilly; thirteen grandchildren; three sisters, Vicki Hayes, Deonn Jensen and Denise Moodispauph; two brothers, Tyrone and Darin Thomas; aunt, Pat Finson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Henry Thomas.
Kevin enjoyed classic cars and loved going to car shows and cruises showing off his 1966 Ford Thunderbird and his 1963 Ford Thunderbird. Other cars he owned were a green Mustang and a Galaxy 500. Kevin was a member of the Beatles Club, and Ford Mustang Club, he enjoyed Keep America Beautiful, Shawnee County Adopt a Park. Kevin cleaned Chesney and Medford Park for many years. He researched Chesney Park and other historical places in Topeka. He loved picking on his brothers Tyrone and Darin. Kevin enjoyed listening to the Beatles and other classical artists. He was a member of St. Joseph/Sacred Heart Parrish. He took care of the lawn at St. Joseph Parish. He was a member of the Topeka Garden Club, was a eucharistic Minister and member of the Knights of Columbus #2608.
Rosary will be recited beginning at 6:30 pm on Thursday evening December 26th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 312 NE Freeman, Topeka Kansas 66616. Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
