Kevin M. Totty Sr., age 64, of Port Huron, Michigan, went home to be with Jesus peacefully surrounded by his family on September 7, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 23, 1959, to the late McKinley and Mary Totty, Kevin's life was a testament to the power of his unwavering faith, love, and kindness.
Kevin was a beacon of light in the lives of many, known for his loving nature and his dedication to his family and community. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 40 years, Jessica, and their beloved children, Randall Totty of Houston, Texas, Trevor Totty of Houston, Texas, Kevin (Brianna) Totty II of Carnegie, PA, Lauren Totty of Port Huron, and Justin (Julia) Totty of Chicago. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Kinley, Zara, and Zechariah, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his siblings, Ellena Totty, Sharon Appoling, McKinley Totty III, Rita Allen, Marcia Totty, Dr. Darryl (Anita) Totty, and Drake (Kirsten) Totty; his mother-in-law, Olga Menchaca; sisters-in-law, JoAnn (Mike) Hale and Veronica Jensen; brothers-in-law, Joe (Sue) Menchaca and Rudolfo (Cathleen) Menchaca; and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss his guidance and warmth.
Kevin's recent achievement of earning his Bachelor's Degree in Philanthropy was a proud moment that reflected his lifelong commitment to giving back. His work with the Community Foundation and his involvement in various organizations touched countless lives. Kevin's passion for mentorship and his commitment to lifting others up were the hallmarks of his life's mission. He had an incredible ability to make everyone feel valued and understood, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Even as he faced his own battle with cancer, Kevin remained focused on his purpose of putting God first, viewing it as an opportunity to mentor even more people. His unwavering strength and positive spirit were an inspiration to us all. Born and raised in Detroit, Kevin's life was shaped by the values of community and service, passed down from his father. He dedicated himself to bringing people together, breaking down barriers, and fostering connections that would strengthen the fabric of our community.
Kevin's interests were as diverse as his talents. He was an avid golfer, a music lover who played the guitar, and a sports enthusiast, especially when it came to football. He found peace in fishing, joy in BBQ'ing, and contentment in cooking. His love for travel took him on trips to see his children and the changing colors of the seasons. He also cherished the simple pleasure of sledding with his granddaughter, Kinley. Kevin's ability to gather people together was unmatched, and his home was often filled with laughter, stories, and the aroma of his latest culinary creation.
Those who knew Kevin would describe him as loving, kind, and faith-filled. His presence was a comfort, his laughter contagious, and his guidance sought after by many. As we say goodbye to Kevin, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart generously given, and a soul that has undoubtedly found its place with the Lord. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, and his love will forever be the cornerstone of our family. Kevin's life was a beautiful melody of compassion and service, and his song will echo in our hearts for eternity.
