Ms. Khalilah Muhammad, age 67, of Collingdale, Pennsylvania, passed peacefully away on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at her daughter's home,
Born in
Aiken, South Carolina; as Evelyn Denise Richardson; at the age of five, Evelyn moved to New York, where she was raised as the only child and beloved daughter of Bettie Richardson. She attended August Martin High School, graduating in the 1970s, and went on to pursue further education at Medgar Evers College-CUNY
Guided by faith, Evelyn embraced Islam, a decision that deeply shaped her life and values. Upon accepting Islam, she legally changed her name to Khalilah Muhammad, a name she carried with pride and purpose.
Khalilah dedicated over 37 years of faithful service to the City of New York, working in the Medicare and Medicaid Department, where she served as a manager. Her commitment, leadership, and compassion left a lasting impact. She retired in 2020 and relocated to Pennsylvania to be closer to her family.
Khalilah lived life fully and joyfully. She loved attending concerts and comedy shows, traveling, playing games, watching football, cooking, singing, and serving the homeless. Recovery was a vital part of her journey, and she was deeply involved in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, which held a special place in her heart. She cherished her time playing Pokeno with her close-knit group known as "The Pokeno Ladies" and thoroughly enjoyed relaxing at her timeshare in Aruba.
Above all, Khalilah treasured her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Adrienne Aqiylah Nicole, and son-in-love, Alexander Sheppard; her son, Khalil Thomas ; her cherished twin granddaughters, Aaliyah and Aniysah Ezekiel; her sisters-in-love, Gaal, Phyllis, and Lola; her aunt-in-love, Aunt Shirley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she adored. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Midnight.
Khalilah will be remembered for her strength, faith, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for her family and community. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Williams Funeral Home and Burial Services.
Family, friends and neighbors are invited to a viewing on Saturday, January 10, 2026 beginning at 10:00 am until time of the funeral service, 11:00 a.m. at Atonement Church, located at 3519 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Delaware 19703. Interment will be private.
