SALISBURY – Kim Stephen Schroeder, 64, of Salisbury, Vt., passed away on July 16, 2025, at UVM Medical Center after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.

Kim was a kind and gentle soul with a huge heart. He loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs and horses. He had many Golden Retrievers over the years, and he could always be found with at least one at his heels. He was a good neighbor, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was always lending a hand to anyone whether you needed it or not. If you pulled into his driveway to say hello, he would start washing your car as he chatted away.

He loved nature and all the seasons brought wonder to him, but Fall was particularly his favorite. He loved hiking with his dogs, taking his nephews and their friends hunting, and making them breakfast after. He loved fishing and anything that had to do with being outdoors.

Kim had many different jobs throughout his life, including working for the town of Salisbury. He was a jack of all trades and loved working with his hands. Almost anyone who knew him has something Kim made.

There are many kids (now grown up) around the lake who remember Kim for his wintertime fun, making sure they all had skates to go out once the lake was frozen, teaching them how to ice fish, and giving rides on his snowmobile.

He loved his Salisbury community and took extreme pride in taking care of and looking after all of the cemeteries, always placing American flags for all the Veterans on the appropriate holidays. He was a lifelong fan of his favorite baseball team, the New York Mets.

Kim is survived by his mother, Beverly Schroeder of Middlebury; his sisters Lisa Schroeder Ryan (Willem Jaring) of Panton, Teresa Schroeder of Middlebury, Allyson Bull of California, and Julie Schroeder of Middlebury; and his brother, Greg Schroeder of Brandon. He has many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and friends who miss his gentle soul. Kim leaves behind his beloved Golden Retriever, Sadie May, who has found her new forever home with Kim's lifelong friend, Gail Mannigan. He is also survived by his good friend, Robin Meacham Vose, who he met daily so the dogs could all take their runs together.

He was predeceased by his father, Jerry Schroeder, his sisters LeAnne Daly Schroeder and Dianne Schroeder; and his nephew Justin Schroeder, who died unexpectedly two days prior to Kim's passing.

There will be a celebration of life on Sept. 13 at the Vergennes Legion from 2:00 – 4:00pm. Please bring your memories and stories to share. We know there are many!

Kim loved animals. If anyone wishes to make a contribution in his memory, they may do so to the Addison County Humane Society/Homeward Bound.
