Kimberly Sears Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Todd County Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Jan. 19, 2026.
The Todd County Funeral Home is honored to have been called to serve the family of Mrs. Kimberly Higgins Sears.

Mrs. Kimberly Higgins Sears, age 61, of Elkton, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Kim was born on April 2, 1964, and was the beloved daughter of the late Danny Higgins and Dianne Higgins.

From an early age, Kim's life reflected a calling to serve others. Her gentle hands, a listening heart, and a steadfast faith guided her path. She worked diligently to earn her bachelor's degree from Murray State University and began her career in Family Resources at North Todd Elementary, where she nurtured children and supported families with grace and compassion. She later became an advocate for children and parents through the Kentucky Child Support office up until her retirement, where she ensured families had a voice and the support they needed.

Answering a deeper call to service, Kim returned to the work she loved by serving with Transformation Through Christ at the West Side Church of Christ. Her Transformation family was dear to her and was always encouraging, praying, and walking alongside others in their journeys. Kim's faith was not only spoken-it was lived, in quiet acts of kindness, selfless service, and unwavering love for her family and community.

Kim found joy in the simple, beautiful things like tending her garden, embracing the creativity of quilting, and sharing time with those she loved. She loved nothing more than the time she spent with Kane. She was his Special Tae-Tae and the center of his world. She was a dedicated member of the Todd County Extension Homemakers for 40 years, where her hospitality, wisdom, and enthusiasm for lifelong learning enriched countless lives.

In addition to her father, Danny Higgins, Kim was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Virgil Sears, her mother-in-law, Peggy Gibbs and a niece, Chelbie Powell.

Kim is survived by her devoted husband of 31 years, David Sears of Allegre; her mother, Dianne Higgins of Elkton; her daughter, Dusty Reed (Quincy) of Clarksville, Tennessee; her cherished grandson, Kane Reed of Clarksville, Tennessee; her sisters, Cherie Higgins Morris (Mitch) and Brandi Higgins (Coty Draper); nephews, Logan Powell (Greer) and Kialoha Higgins-Draper; and a great-nephew, Tucker Powell all of Elkton. Kim was a special aunt to Mitchell Morris (Allison) of Fishers, Indiana; Micah Morris (Jackson Vinson) and Bexton Lewis all of Cadiz. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Cheryl Dossett (Roger) of Elkton; her brother-in-law, Randy Sears of Sharon Grove and numerous nieces and nephews. Her circle of family and friends was wide, and the love she offered them was steadfast and true.

Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, January 18th from 12:00 until funeral service time at 2:00 at the West Side Church of Christ in Elkton with Bro. Doug Gregory officiating. Interment will follow at McColpin Cemetery in Allegre.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Kim's honor be made to Transformation Through Christ, PO Box 681, Elkton, Kentucky 42220, to continue supporting the ministry she deeply loved.

Kim's legacy is one of faith, service, and love-a life devoted to helping others, lifting up her church family, and cherishing her own. She leaves behind a community grateful for the light she shared, and a family forever inspired by her example.
