Kirsten was our neighbor in Hay Stack Ranches outside of Chino Valley, AZ. My daughter, Krista LeVick AKA "Tory" introduced herself to Kirsten in the hopes of meeting her two horses. This was around 2010. Tory is totally horse obsessed and is a head over heels horse lover. Kirsten very kindly took this new stranger under her wing. Tory was 16 at the time and had been riding since the age of 3. She had her own horse a Spanish mustang named Chaos and cared for him and my horse Magic morning and night. We lived just up the hill from Kirsten. What began as an acquaintance quickly turned into "mentorship". Kirsten revealed a whole new world of Dressage and advanced equine art. She was knowledgeable, compassionate, stern, loving and giving and these traits combined with her teaching skills allowed my daughter to learn vast amounts and grow in the equine world exponentially. She used this knowledge to transform her ranch horse, barrel racing Chaos into a competitive dressage performer. She then acquired a young Morgan/Quarter horse filly and started this horse all by herself with the "Kirsten" foundation.
This foundation provided my daughter with a basis for her current equine adventure. She now lives in Sweden and has ridden the most highly rated Andalusian stallion in Scandinavia and owns one of his daughters. She plans to bring this young horse on and show it's true potential using her mentored skills. She refers to her friendship with Kirsten as a mentorship but more. She passes this experience and pearls of wisdom on to pupils young and old.
Our family now has a void in it that will never be filled. The idea of missing her is woefully inadequate to express our feelings now.
We want to convey our condolences on to all who knew and cared for this wonderful woman. May she rest in deserved peace.
Gail Hammond and Tory LeVick
