Kitty Thatcher Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cunningham, Parker & Johnson Funeral Home on Jan. 6, 2026.
Kitty Lou Vannoy Thatcher, 82, of Charleston, WV, passed away January 6, 2026, surrounded by her precious sons. She was born March 7, 1943, in Charleston, WV, to Claude Ova and Gladys Vannoy.

Kitty was a devoted wife and a loving mother. Her boys were her pride and joy. She worked hard to support her family, giving selflessly of herself and her time. Kitty worked as a waitress and was one of the best in the industry. She loved what she did and always gave the best service to her customers. Her sons give her the credit for the hardworking men they have become.

Her family can tell endless stories about her huge heart and how compassionate she was. They will also tell you that she was a little firecracker that did not back down. She would lovingly put someone in their place if she needed to, but she had a heart of gold. One thing everyone knew for sure was that Kitty loved her boys. In her last days they were all she talked about. Kitty also talked about being with her late husband, Edmond John Thatcher (Eddie) who passed in 1993. She was ready to be reunited with him.

Kitty was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband's Eddie Thatcher and Walter Coleman, Sisters Genlee Boggess, Delores Boggess and Patricia Spearman, Brothers James Vannoy and Robert Vannoy.

Kitty leaves behind to cherish her memory: sons Christopher Ova Thatcher, John Edmond Thatcher, and wife Sarah, James Morris Thatcher. Grandchildren: Christopher Thatcher, Merenah Thatcher, Tayler Thatcher, Owen Thatcher, Alexi Thatcher, Parker Thatcher, and Kayla Thatcher. Great-granddaughter Aaliyah Thatcher. Sisters Margaret Mitchell and Joann Paxton, Brother Rodger Vannoy and wife Dianne, and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
