Marvin George Thatcher Jr., 88, of Beaufort, SC, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 24th, 1937, in Ticonderoga, New York to the late Marvin George Thatcher Sr., and raised by his mother the late Catherine Ann (Powvorznik) Thatcher Carr and his stepfather the late Wesley Robert Carr. He and his younger brothers were surrounded by a loving family in Crown Point, New York.

He married, according to him, his treasure Patricia Ann Thatcher on August 8th, 1958. They had 65 wonderful years of marriage. She followed him 2,914 miles from Ticonderoga, New York to Ventura, California on a Trailways Bus to marry her Navy Sailor.

Marvin was the proud father of Valerie (Roger) Parry, Renee Davison and Kevin (Rosanne) Thatcher. He enjoyed being a grandparent, spending time his grandkids, Drew (Micah) Vittetoe, Tyler (Kathryn) Vittetoe, Kurtis (Ashley) Thatcher, Kyle Thatcher, Ryan (Kimberlee) Vittetoe, Ashley (Kyle) Eaton, Katharine (Thomas) Lewis, Abigail (Ben) Devine and Alyssa Davison. He is the Geep/Grandpa (Great Grandfather) to eighteen great grandchildren.

As a Navy family, he and Patricia explored the world together and established many lifelong friendships.

They retired from the Navy to Pensacola, FL, where he worked for the Department of the Navy Southern Engineering Division, followed by his contractor position as a transportation division supervisor until he retired again and began refinished antiques and woodworking. Besides being in his shop woodworking, he had a great love of automobiles. Every three years getting the itch to get a new car, but his real love was antique cars. The most important part of his life was his loving wife and family.

In 2019, he and Patricia moved to Beaufort, SC to be closer and more centrally located to family.

Marvin will always be remembered for his bad dad jokes, his robust laughter, his thicker than mud coffee and his love for his wife and family.

Surviving family are his two daughters, Valerie Ann Parry (Roger) and Renee Marie Davison; one son, Kevin Marvin Thatcher (Rosanne); eight grandchildren, seven grandchildren in love, and eighteen great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his treasured wife, Patricia Ann (Bougor) Thatcher, his brothers Robert George Thatcher and Clarence Kipp Carr, his grandson Kyle Richard Thatcher, his great granddaughter Marshall Aurora Vittetoe.

Visitation will be held at 11:00 am on December 29th at Anderson Funeral Home, 611 Robert Smalls PKWY, Beaufort, SC 29906. The Rosary will begin at 11:30. Departure from the funeral home begins exactly at 12:30 to burial pavilion at Beaufort National Cemetery, followed by a reception immediately after ceremony at 1124 Otter Circle, Beaufort.

In lieu of flowers, request donations be made to St. Francis Center, PO Box 682, Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, 29920. This organization serves the needy in Northern Beaufort County.
