Kitty Wade passed away peacefully at Four Seasons in Columbus, Indiana on Wednesday afternoon June 4th, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family. Kitty was born August 15, 1945 to Ann & Neil Kitchen in Ohio. The family was very active in Girl Scouts, and Kitty stayed busy with dance classes, too. The family moved from Ohio to Columbus. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1963. She attended Indiana University her freshman year of college, and though she liked the school and had made several life-long friends, she was too far away from her high school sweetheart, Butch Wade. Kitty transferred to Indiana State University where Butch was a student-athlete. Butch and Kitty were married in August of 1966, and both graduated from ISU in 1967. Kitty earned her Master's Degree in education a few years later. Kitty was an elementary school teacher. She spent the majority of her career as a third grade teacher at Eastside Elementary School in Edinburgh, Indiana. She also gave students extra help in math and reading labs at Eastside, as well as at Hope Elementary before she retired. Butch and Kitty were married for over 50 years. Kitty loved doing any activity that involved her three spoiled grandkids and spending time with her naughty little beagle, Penny. Kitty loved mint ice cream, playing euchre with her family, bridge with her dear friends, meeting the ladies for lunch, and watching women's basketball on television. She enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds and chickadees that visited her porch and reading murder mysteries. She was proud of being a bargain shopper, and was easily excited by a good coupon. She had a general dislike for poor grammar and cheerleaders that blocked her view. Kitty was preceded in death by her parents, Ann & Neil Kitchen of Madison, her sister in law, Janet Kitchen of Trenton, Ohio, her best friend Jane Sims of Columbus, and her beloved husband, Butch. Kitty will be loved and missed by her two daughters, Jody Beckley (Todd) of Indianapolis and Missy Satterfield (Rob) of Columbus; as well as her grandchildren, Maxwell Beckley of Indianapolis and Asia Carr and Bryson Satterfield both of Columbus. She is also survived by her two brothers, Tom Kitchen of Trenton, Ohio and Jim Kitchen (Sue) of Texas. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 23rd, 2025 at Barkes, Weaver, & Glick Funeral Home from noon to 2 p.m. A reflection ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. following the visitation. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kitty's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Columbus North High School Athletics.
